PDQ may delete pic later Short Version: Mad.ison Cl.aire was born 10/25 at 1:49pm at 40w1d. 7lbs15oz. She looks exactly like her bro did as a newborn and is pretty laid back which is great. Labor was ok, very different than first time. Home and doing well, although DS really could care less at this point!
Long Version:
After resigning myself to going past my due date and probably needing to be induced later in the week, I convinced my husband to go to his drill weekend given that I felt very little on Friday (due date) and he was only going to be 3 hours away and my parents were here. So the plan was for him to leave at 4:30 am to drive to drill. Friday night I stayed up and watched a few episodes on demand since sleeping on the couch was more appealing these days. Stayed up til 11:30, then tried to sleep. woke up at 1 with some pain, and cramping, but that had happened before so I shrugged it off. But by 3 I was super uncomfortable so started timing the contractions. Definitely more wavelike that what I had been feeling prior for weeks. At 4 DH woke up to get ready to go and I asked him to wait another half hour to see if they kept up or would stop (they were 5-6 min apart for last hour). Once I had them like that for two hours, I called dr, and since i was already 4cms and GBS positive, they said to come in. So no drill weekend for DH! Thank goodness it all happened before he left!
Checked into hospital at 6:30am, was about 5cms. Started my antibiotics, and kinda tried to sleep for a bit. I was so mad at myself for watching stupid television and not getting a good nicghts sleep but oh well. By 10ish they broke my water, and that moved things along. Got Epidural around 11, however that was an ordeal. Last time I had no problems with it and it actually worked TOO well ( I had dead leg and could feel NOTHING which made pushing tricky). This time, they put epi in, and IMMEDIATELY I had a screaming headache and felt like i would pass out. Blood pressure dropped and they needed to give me epinephrine. Threw up and almost fell off bed. Once things calmed down, dr explained the epi must have nicked a part of the spinal column, creating a hole and that was the headache. If i laid FLAT on my back, no headache, but sitting up or standing would be super uncomfortable. He said after delivery we would talk about having a procedure called a blood block to repair the hole and reduce the headache. After that I was ok for a while, but nurse couldn't see my contractions on monitor well so they put in an internal, during which Irealized the epi wasn't as strong and i felt EVERY BIT of them putting it in me, super fun, letm e tell ya. I was an 8cm but my contrax started to slow down and weren't strong so in order to bring her down, we added some pitocin ot the mix, which did the trick. An hour later I felt pressure and some MAJOR contractions, and it was time. Literally 4 min later, she was out. I pushed almost an hour with DS, so I was shocked at how fast, but I think it helped i could feel it (not that I liked feeling it but i was hell bent on getting her out). Started nursing almost an hour later and I was shocked to find she could latch without a nipple shield unlike my son! Recovery sucked, I threw up a bunch and felt like ass, especailly with this headache, but my womanly parts area actually felt fine ( 1 minor tear). That night i begged to see dr about the spinal situation, and they did a blood patch. Basically took 3 vials of blood out of my arm and injected it into the port still in my back. It was instant relief and iH ad to stay still for an hour to allow it to clot. But by second night, headaches were back and I could hardly get up without a migraine from hell. Which made nursing and trying to take care of her difficult. So my discharge got pushed back until I could get another blood block, which worked instantly and has stayed put so far. Got to come home Monday afternoon and has been good. My back, hips and legs all kill without Vicodin (courtsey of all the mess in my back) but other than that I feel ok! She is nursing well, except my nipples are cracked and bleeding already so I cheated and went back to the nipple shield. But I could not take seeing her throwing up blood.
We are all adjusting at home, but im so thankful to have my parents here. I can't pick up DS and he is a handfull (13months) and my husband isa lready back to work. Looks like DD has some hip issues like her bro so we are getting an ultrasound soon to confirm and move forward. As much as it sucks, I was prepared for it to be the case and am glad that we have our experience with DS to rely on. We will see how this all plays out once my parents leave, im already nervous for it!!!
Congrats on making it this far, here is my sweet girl!
