I am curious where everyone is on this. On the one hand, Whole30 is defined as a specific elimination diet with no cheating allowed (vs. a general monthlong diet clean-up). On the other, I am not about to restart because I had a sip of sugar- and milk-laden mocha to save me from a cough attack. Or because I consciously chose to have veggie chips - sweet potatoes, beets, "exotic potatoes", salt and sunflower oil - last night at a barbecue. I'm not doing Whole30 to cut out junk food, I don't eat much of it anyway, so for me that kind of cheat isn't a big deal.
Where do you fall - are you just trying to eat better for a month, or are you sticking to the rules 100%? Are you focused on finding a potential allergy/sensitivity or more on changing habits?

I think it depends on what kind of cheating. The "I'm going to have a sip of latte because if not I'll choke" is fine. But the "oohhh, I'm at a restaurant and the cheeseburger looks soooooo good!" excuse is kind of lame to me. If you're going to do Whole30, then do Whole30. I'm not going to be *that* obsessed that I grill a server at a restaurant for every ingredient in my food, but I will do my best to ensure it is Whole30 compliant. Bottom line, it is only 30 days (even though at times it feels like a lifetime).
As for why I'm doing this, I don't think I have any allergies. For me it is more about losing weight and stopping the cravings. I am a huge stress eater and work has been horrid lately. I've developed some *really* bad habits in the last 8 weeks that I'm trying to stop.
I'm planning on not cheating. For me a little cheat would turn into a big cheat and I'd say fuck it. Now that I am on day 5 I feel like I am far enough in that I wouldn't start over though if did mess up. I was on the fence about planning one cheat meal on my birthday but I've decided to just postpone it until the next week to celebrate at my favorite restaurant.
I'm doing the whole 30 to lose weight, feel better and just become more conscious about my eating.
