No kid grabbing here. Back when we used to get a ton of kids, I would hand them one piece. When it started to die down, I would ask them what their favorite was and give them that. Now that we get very few kids, I hand them one of each kind we have. The last few kids of the night usually get a handful each, lol.

Our first year here, when the neighborhood was full of old people. we had a ton of TOTers. Now, as they have all died off and replaced by younger people, no one gives out candy. I would have thought the opposite. And since we are a dead end street, people have stopped even coming down because half the lights are off. So I get stuck with a shitton of candy every year. Bring your kids and let them take a handful, people, before I go in a sugar coma.
I just told DH we're going to have to dole out the candy. The first two (young) ToT'ers just came by and I extended the bowl and they each took two big handfuls. lol. We have a TON more coming soooo, gotta conserve candy!

Interesting. There were a ton of young families when we moved here 10 years ago, and TOT was insane. Now their kids are all in high school or already in college, and we hardly get any kids. We are also a dead-end street that ends at a park, so we only get big groups when people cross the park to go to other neighborhoods, which only happens in nice weather, which we don't have tonight. Therefore, we'll probably have a lot of left over candy.

I just had the cutest little 20-month old at my door. I got down on my knees and talked to her, but she just stared at me for like three minutes while her parents encouraged her to take a piece of candy.
Then - suddenly - she grinned and reached in with both hands and took two giant fistfuls.
Her dad laughed and was like, "daddy doesn't need that much candy!" and put a bunch back.
Then she announced, "Two!" and held up the two pieces she had left.
I died. My uterus is urging me to try for a little girl right now. (Although I'd love another little boy too.)

I hand them a handful because we always buy a buttload of candy, and every time I'm like, "Please take a few handfuls!" kids take only one piece.
Mothers, when you get to my house, instruct your children to be as rude as possible and take all my candy.
We had the same problem! My husband kept insisting they take handfuls, and demonstrated how much they should take, but they have been trained by other houses to take 1 lol
Last year, we had 148 bags of pretzels (yes, we are that lame) and we ran out with one/kid.
This year H refused to be the lame house, and have 160 pieces of chocolate. I am handing one/kid bc I need it to last!
Haha, my husband made fun of me for getting 80 bags of pretzels, but those were the favorite for the kids! We had tons of candy, all the good stuff and they could have as much as they wanted; and the pretzels were the first to go. I am going to up the pretzels next year lol
He thought we were going to be stuck with the pretzels but he said a lot of kids wanted pretzels, and the parents like them because they could be sent in their lunch to school.

The kids kept asking if I was a teacher. lol. I was all for the pretzels (and have seen some in the bags tonight), but H was adamant about chocolate.
I plan to give 2 per kid but we had so few kids that I gave 3 per kid. I pick what they get. They tend to come in bunch of 4-8 kids at a time (the parents usually are all walking together too) and if I let them all pick they'd be there all night. Also, I pick it for quantity control so I don't have a couple kids take most of the candy.
Our TOT started at 6, usually within 5 minutes of it starting I have kids at my door but not this year. It ended at 7 and I didn't have any kids for the last 45 minutes. We only had 61 this year and they all came within about a 50 minute time period.
