Ds2 is 19 months. He's sick with a cold, runny nose, cough, no fever.
I put him to bed at seven. He's exhausted and went down super easily. But now, an hour later, he's coughing and moaning. He's not really crying or even fussing. I can tell he's still asleep, but when he coughs a lot, he just moans, and sounds so sad.
He's too big to sleep on my lap, and no one will sleep if he gets into bed with us. I feel like I should know what to do, but if he wakes up fussing in the middle of the night, do I just try to get him comfy on me? DH could calm him down, normally, but I don't think That will work tonight, for long anyway.
I would make myself a comfy bed on his floor and just be close to make sure he is ok. Have you elevated his mattress so his head is raised? Humidifier running? If he wakes up and keeps coughing take him in the bathroom and run the shower so it gets all steamy. This will help to open his chest up so he can breathe better.
what tarzanswife said. Just put some books, or bricks, under the legs at the head of his crib so his head is raised four inches or so, it'll help with congestion. Is the room cool?

I also had good luck putting a pillow under the crib mattress to prop it up a bit. I'd also start a cool mist humidifier if you haven't done so.
If you have it on hand, vicks baby rub can help a little.
Also saline drops in the nose, wait 2 minutes and then use the nose sucker!
I also give my LO a small spoonful of honey. It coats the throat and helps ease the cough. I mix bourbon and honey for myself but he gets just the honey.
