If you like Tom Perrotta, which other authors would you recommend?
I seem to remember heyjude and ESF both being Tom Perrotta fans. Anyone else? I'm in the middle of The Leftovers right now. I've read The Abstinence Teacher, Little Children, and Election. I love his writing, and I'm looking for recommendations for similar authors. He's the perfect blend of interesting characters, important themes, and good but not overly dense writing.

I've read everything you've read except The Leftovers. Wasn't crazy about Little Children. I'm a big fan of Kate Atkinson - Behind the Scenes at the Museum was great.
I haven't read The Leftovers yet. I think I'll suggest it to my book club next month.
I didn't love Freedom. I thought it was a lot of work to read for not a lot of return. The book that stole the Pulitzer from it, Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad, is one of the best books I've ever read in my entire life. I think you would enjoy that.
Nick Hornby is pretty good, and probably fairly similar in some ways to Perrota. I liked the novels of High Fidelity and About a Boy - as always better than the movies. Especially High Fidelity. How to Be Good is terrible though.
