Help me figure out what's going on with my baby. She's almost 5 months old. The past several nights she tries to sleep but is in obvious pain or uncomfortable. I put her to bed and first wake up she comes in with me. That's been at about10 lately . After I feed her and we lay down she is very jerky and thrashing and crying/screaming. Her arms go like crazy and often hitting me in the face. Her eyes are closed the whole time so she wants to be sleeping.
She's now formula fed during day and nurses at night. She hasn't pooped since Thursday so maybe she's constipated again. I've given pear juice per Doctor yesterday and this morning. I don't know what's wrong but before she would at least sleep peacefully on me. Now she's on me and crying sometimes this happens right after eating sometimes its an hour or so after. I just have no idea anymore.
Any chance she's teething? E was very drooly & fussy for at least a month b/f he got actual teeth. Sometimes waking up screaming in the middle if the night. Could hurt to try Hyland's teething tabs and/or Tylenol.
E got constipated a lot, but it never made him upset like that. Pear juice didn't work great. Prunes or prune juice or apple juice worked better. I think Hyland's also makes something for gas that other moms swear by, but I never used. I Aldo would try doing his legs like a bicycle when he was constipated & it seemed to help. Others also recommend inserting a thermometer rectally to get things going.
I hope she feels batter soon & everyone can get done sleep!
My guess would be teething and nearing a milestone (crawling?). J gets so sad with teething, and crazy (creating, thrashing, etc.) when learning something new.
This happened to a lesser degree when we started the iron supplement. I was nervous to give him the full dosage so we started with half a dose every other day and he got so backed up/ his poop turned almost black and it was so gross. He was obviously in some pain so we quit. I am going to ask his doctor what she recommends since half a dose every other day was so crappy (or so not enough crappy?)
It sounds like how J gets when she gets upset stomach from either constipation or gas due to (in our case) dairy.
I'm already not doing dairy/soy and switching the expensive formula for this but since its only at night when I nurse I wonder if aomething slipped? Thanks everyone for your responses. Ill see if I can feel teeth. I didn't 2 days ago. Such a mystery
Has your baby been congested or stuffy? Maybe an ear infection? Blb never let on that she had an ear infection except for when she was sleeping. It hurt her a lot when she was trying to sleep.
So it was slightly better but still not great. She wakes up screaming a lot....at what point do I go to doctor?
Have you tired Tylenol in case it's teething? Do you have a nurse line you can call for advice and to ask whether you should take her in?
I haven't yet...hate giving out medicine but I guess I could try tonight and see if it helps. My nurses line feels really unhelpful most of the time. I'm usually shamed bc she sleeps in bed with me. And I want to just yell at them that I wish this wasnt the case but survival!

I would try Tylenol and see how she's does. In general I don't worry about the doctor unless there are other symptoms, like fever, lack of dirty diapers, or vomiting.

This. And I get not wanting to give mess, but I feel like I've avoided it and then later realized it was teething & it helped & then I feel terrible. So, since he can't tell me what's wrong I am quicker to give him mess. Or grab Hyland's teething tabs. They are natural & help. But, when his teething is really bad, he needs Tylenol to sleep.

I also wonder if there's another food allergy if its only happening after you nurse. Does it happen when she naps or only at night after nursing?

That's a good (but scary) thought. Soon she will be all formula so ill see if it continues. She could be now but I'm too lazy to get up and go downstairs to make a bottle 3x a night. Ill pay attention more to what I'm eating
