-what kind of breastfeeding supplies should I register for? I am not registering for a pump since I plan to rent from the hospital until I'm sure it's going to work for me.
-should I register for bottles? If so, which ones?

hooded towels - if you get the big ones from PBK you can use them for a long time. DS1 is almost 3 and he still likes to use them. We have 4 of the bigger ones (DS1 gets a bath every other day and DS2-5 months-gets a bath twice a week). The tiny ones are only good for a few months, so I'd only get 2.
We have the sound machine. I didn't check your link but ours is the homedics lullaby soundspa (white and light blue). We have two, actually, one per kid.
Bottles - I'd get one or two bottles of a few different kinds. Both DS1 and DS2 like the glass Born Free ones, but neither kid was into bottles. DS1 refused most bottles and DS2 will only occasionally take a more than a few sips.
BF supplies - breastmilk storage bags. I was given nipple cream at the hospital, but I never had to use it. A breasfeeding pillow - my brest friend or boppy.

Sleep sheep is fantastic. For months 1-2, it wasnt loud enough. The vacuum worked well, or the ipad app. I wouldnt regiater for too many towels, only because this is everyones favourite thing to buy (it seems). I got so many that I gave 2 away and I didnt register for any. I have 6-8. I do laundry every other day (small machine and I have a baby)
Towels- think about how often you think you'll bath and how often you want to do laundry. I had 5 or so and that was fine. You might want to double that for washclothes. It also seemed this was a go to gift for people that were just giving a little something.
I never had a crack machine. It seemed like one more thing to have to deal with if we went away for a night.
BFing- I was weird about wanting people to buy my these things and only registered for the Boppy. I just used gift cards for the other stuff.
For bottles we used Avent, but I have since learned a lot of babies have a preference. So I'd register for a couple of different kinds.

I think we have 5 hooded towels and do baths every two days.
I'm not sure which sound machine your link is for, but we have the Fisher Price Rainforest one. You can do lights, sound, music in a variety of combinations. Now that DS is older he loves to turn it on himself before he falls asleep (we have it just set to music now).
We registered for two types of bottles. Dr. Brown's and the Playtex Ventaires. We were lucky and our DS wasn't picky about bottles at all. We liked the Dr. Browns but because he wasn't picked we switched to the Ventaires because they were cheaper.
I didn't register for any BF supplies, but all that I really needed was storage bags, nipple cream and breast pads. I liked the Lansinoh brand for all.
I think we had 4 towels. We now use some from Kohls in various kid shapes. They still work great at 3.5 years and recommend them if you catch a good sale/coupon code. We had a ton of wash clothes too, at least 20.
We went between Playtex Drop-ins and ones that were the same shape as Avent (and could use their nipples). I think they were Gerber Gentle Flow. It was right around when Avent was just coming out with their BPA-free bottles and the Gerber were BPA-Free and a lot cheaper. DS wasn't picky though. He's eat from anything.
I have to suggest one more thing. This bib is awesome once they are at finger foods as it catches the food and they can still get the food out to eat. I sought it out as kids I babysat had them years ago. www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?WRN=-1354455876&SKU=113023&RN=7061&

Ditto this: we have one for each kid, baths every other day. I bought DD's right away and haven't been sorry.
Baby crack machine: anything will work (we use an app on our iPhones when traveling and they sleep just as well), though we found the projector feature handy b/c it functioned as a nightlight for us and we could see into the room easily to check on them at night.
I didn't register for BF supplies, but if I would've, it would've been for my Boppy and probably a couple of cute covers (we rotated 2 or 3: they get messy often in the early days.) I bought most of my BFing/pumping supplies myself.
-We had no use for hooded towels -We didn't have a "sound spa". We use a $5 fan from WalMart. DD's PnP had a vibration/sound thingy, and we had something that connected to her crib -No idea, because I was an evil FFer -The BFers may be able to help with that. We used Avent if it makes any difference
-you really don't need hooded towels, but if you do want them get the ones from pbk or kohls like others have said. The ones from target od wherever are too thin and only big enough for tiny babies. We have one kohl's one for each kid and ds1 had a pbk one too. We have like 10 of the little ones and never use them.
-we have one of the homedics blue and white crack machines for each kid, ds1 is almost 2 and a half and still uses his
-I didn't register for breastfeeding stuff, but would buy a couple of tanks and sleep bras and some nursing pads. My hospital gave plenty of samples of lanolin but if yours does not I would have that or the earth mammal nipple butter on hand. You may not need nursing pads for leaking right away but I like having them to keep the nipple cream from staining my nursing tanks and bras
-I went through like 8-10 different bottles before finding one ds1 liked, this time I started out with playtex drop ins and love them, ds2 seems to like them too
I would also reccomend a hand pump, the medela one is like 30 bucks and it is handy to have that as well as the electric. I personally hated the hospital pump (medela) but love my cheap lansinoh double electric.
I think I only registered for a pack of 3, but we use them very frequently. I wish we got the bigger ones since DS is a tall baby.
I didn't register for any sound machines but we received two sleep sheeps as gifts. We love that thing and use it every time we want DS to sleep, whether for naps or for bedtime.
I registered for the PISA and that's it. I was silly and it didn't occur to me that I needed milk storage bags and even bigger flanges than what the pump came with. I also needed nipple cream. However, I was lucky enough that a college friend had a baby 3 months ahead of me and she gave me all of her leftover supplies.
I registered for a starter pack of the Dr. Brown bottles. DS isn't picky so I don't know about brands since we didn't have to try more than one.

Hooded towels: It depends on how often you do laundry. I think we have 8. 4 would have been plenty since we do laundry a few times a week. (We got more than we registered for but didn't return them because we plan to have more kids)
Also don't forget wash cloths. We use 3-4 per bath. (1 face, 1 body, 1 to cover diaper area)
We don't have a sound machine.
Breastfeeding supplies: Lansinoh storage bags Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple Butter (better than lanolin IMO) Lansinoh breast pads* Boppy pillow Extra boppy cover
*After two months of bfing & spending $20/mo on disposable breast pads I switched to reusable. I love my Bamboobies but they are a little expensive. I paid $45 delivered for a 6pk & 2pk. (20% off code DDL20)
Bottles: We registered for a few boxes of Tommee Tippees, 10 bottles total. However we only opened one box. Thank goodness because DS didn't like them. We were able to return the unopened boxes. He ended up liking Born Free.

3 hooded towels (by the time these were used up we were doing more laundry anyway)
We've never had a sound machine.
I didn't register for it, but nipple cream, nursing pads, ice packs specifically for breastfeeding (they are in a circular shape and soft and you can put them in the freezer), a couple of nursing bras and tanks (target had good cheap ones when I was breastfeeding), storage bags bottles/bags - I just used the ones I got with my breastpump but I am sure they sell them separately.
We used the Dr. Brown bottles (at the infant age you just need the small ones), but I would honestly pick a brand and just register for maybe 6 bottles(?) that way if they don't work its not a huge waste but if they do someone can run out and get more.

Definitely get some nursing tanks too. (I wouldn't register for them though)
Some people like the Target tanks, I didn't. Mine are all Bravado, I LOVE THEM! I have 5 & lived in them during my maternity leave. Now I wear them at night & on weekends.
- Hooded towels: 1 or 2; unless you plan on bathing everyday (why?) then 4 or 5
- we have the prince lionheart bear and she loved it for 8 weeks and then graduated to a free app on the iPhone (noise box); lights not needed.
- BFing supplies: nipple cream, pads, a good pump if you plan on going back to work, steamer bags to clean pump parts, milk storage bags. No one will buy you this stuff. Be prepared to get as needed but be pro active and get the nipple cream ahead of time.
- bottles: eh skip it. All babies take to the different brands differently. And you won't really know what you need until you have the kid. For example if you need to supplement in the early days you might need a different bottle than ones you send to daycare. Pick up as needed. We bought one born free that we used to supplement in NB phase but now I swear by evenflo glass bottles bc they attach directly to my pump and then she just eats directly out of it. Saved a step! The evenflo are cheap too!
We got some hooded towels, but I only used them at the very beginning. They really aren't necessary. I prefer just regular towels.
We have a cheapie sound machine from Target. We use it, but V still doesn't sleep well so I have no idea if it helps or not....couldn't hurt, I guess.
For BF supplies, I'd get some Lansinoh cream for your nipples and some nursing pads. You may also want some storage bags for saving frozen milk.
The only bottles we have ever used are the Medela ones that I pump into. We have never had a need for anything else. I wouldn't register for too much of that kind of thing. Maybe wait til Gretchen gets here and see how it goes.
- we have that one, but the BEST sound machine is a box fan. The $20 one from Target has been the best baby investment so far (besides the My Breast Friend)
- My Breast Friend pillow, Lansinoh freezer bags, Lansinoh lanolin (Also keep in mind if you have a FSA/HSA, you can use this $ for BF supplies!!! MM!!! So if you have $ to spend, I wouldn't register for any of it.)
- I registered for a few of each brand. Ended up liking Dr. Brown (DH was sold on the less colic claim) and returned the rest.
The kohls ones are by Jumping Beans. Man they have a lot of other ones on the website. I agree on the target ones not being big enough. Not really necessary but DS loves being a naked lion running around.

Haha. Yes, the jumping beans ones. DS1 has the monster one and likes to run from the bathroom wearing it and growling after a bath.
I just wanted to comment on the breast pump. My insurance would only cover a manual pump. However, I get a 30% off employer discount on a pump (and all nursing equipment/shirts/bras/pads/etc) if I purchase it from our hospital gift shop. The pump is about $10 more than BRU but the discount will make it much better to buy it at the hospital. Something to look into if you work for a large company in your area. Luckily one of the recent mom's on my floor mentioned it to me in passing or I wouldn't have had any idea.
