Anatomy scan today was almost perfect, except that I have a two-vessel umbilical cord. The doctor said that in the absence of any other abnormalities (and they didn't find anything else wrong) it should be fine. But man I was really hoping this would be my "sigh of relief" day and that is not how it's turning out. It's going to be a long 21 weeks wondering if he's growing okay.
Congrats! I had a stressful anatomy scan yesterday, too (I posted in GotP), so I know exactly how you feel. But it sounds like he's doing great! Are they going to check him more often now to make sure that all is well?

I hope so. I get my ultrasounds done at a different office, and my regular OB is closed on Tuesdays. I'm going to call her tomorrow to see where we go from here. A monthly growth ultrasound would be great to help ease my mind,
Congrats on a boy! Welcome to team blue I was a little nervous about having a boy at first too, because, like you, I know nothing about boys, but now I can't wait to meet our little man.
I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry too much about the cord. If your doctor isn't concerned, then I'm sure everything is fine!
Sorry it wasn't 100% smooth, but it sounds like a fairly minor concern that will hopefully be nothing to worry about. Easier said than done, of course!
My biggest fear is stillbirth, which seems like it happens very rarely. Any other complication we can deal with.
Kids w/ down syndrome have a higher rate of stillbirth, so I get how scary it can be to think about this. Because of this, I had extra monitoring starting maybe around week 34 (twice a week - once for a NST and once for a biophysical ultrasound). I wonder if your OB if they will do any additional monitoring? Maybe something to ask about.
KaraOrNot, any boy advice for us? I have literally never been around little boys, it's going to be a major learning experience!
I have no experience w/ babies period, lol. The biggest learning curve for me is the peeing/diaper thing. He hasn't peed on the wall yet this week, so I am calling this a win! No advice yet, but I will let you know when I finally figure this out. FastHands, any tips?
Ummmm... I'm a firm believer in The Flap now -- unfasten diaper, pull front part down for a second, then quickly flap it forward so he gets a little breeze. It should make him pee if he's going to, and then it just gets on the diaper you are removing anyway. Not guaranteed, but my wall is drier since I started that.
Oh, and point the penis down. Lol. And make sure the ruffles around the leg are fanned out and not tucked in (that one goes for both sexes).
Maybe common sense, but I had never changed a diaper before, sooo yeah.
Oh and if you're getting him circ'ed, use a big ol glob of vaseline, especially at first.
Yay boy!!! Also, I don't want to give you false hope here, but my babe had a 2 vessel cord at my anatomy scan, and then magically at the next scan (and every scan since) they've been able to see 3. So...they'll probably do additional U/S with you, and just ask them to re-check the cord every time, you may be surprised.

Well that certainly seems like it happens, that came up all the time in my googling!
I think I'm finally getting to the point where I believe it's not going to be that big of a deal even if it is a two vessel cord. We'll just keep a good eye on him to be sure!
