I have never gotten the Olympics bug but some swimming and rowing was on while I was at the Y earlier and I was all AMERICA FUCK YEAH while sweating on the elliptical.
I don't understand caring that much about the olympics. It's fun to watch some events, but it's not earth-shattering to follow.
You don't understand how others could have different interest than your own?
Olympics are fun. They only happen every four years, which makes them exciting.. There is pagentry involved. We are watching the best of the best when it comes to athletics. What is not to get about that?

Of course I do. But not to the level of outrage that is overtaking the internet these days.
We live in a world of up-to-the-minute news. This is a global event. I can see how things sometimes get reported out of order.
The difference between the Olympics and a regular basketball/football/whatever game is that the games are aired live and NBC is tape delaying the olympics. If the olympics were being aired live I would agree, it's news, take your risks of having to watch you shit on TiVo when you get home. But when you don't have the option to watch it live BECAUSE NBC HAS A GODDAMN MONOPOLY that sucks. I think people are really more mad that NBC isn't showing the events in a timely manner than that the spoilers are being broadcast; they are just a symptom.
I am imagining in my head the level of outrage that would erupt if someone died on "Glee" and a news site spoiled it.
For the record, I'd think that was stupid too.
IIRC, a recent study showed that people enjoy things even more after being "spoiled", despite the assumption otherwise. Maybe that's what NBC is doing.

On the same network? That's just shitty programming and bad communication.

I feel like I am not speaking English in this post. My beef is with NBC.
Up to the minute news on news outlets that don't also broadcast the Olympics - a-ok with me and understandable
News being prominently and (so far for me, though I've tried) unavoidably broadcast on the same network/news organization that is also choosing when they'll let me see the Olympics - not cool

I don't believe this. It is boring as hell for me to know the ending. I can't believe the majority of people would feel the opposite
Also I was trying to watch The women's final on my ipad and it kept freezing up AND they aired commercials during the good parts. The monopoly they have is total bullshit.

I don't think NBC gives a shit if we enjoy it or not.
Of course they don't, they have the monopoly (also, I miss the winky emoticon, because my last sentence was sarcasm)
Fact about me: I used to always read the ending of books once I reached the middle or so, because I couldnt handle not knowing. Then I would go back and enjoy the rest of it.
I'm trying to stop, but sometimes I still fail and go see a few pages ahead, and then a few more, and then a few more, and then a few more, and then I realize I know the whole story in details and just put the book back in the bookcase. Hence why I'm trying to stop, lol
I think it sucks that NBC so royally screwed up the American viewing experience for the games. They could be handling this so much better, very easily. They could start now, if they cared about their viewers.
That said, I've seen a lot of people posting on FB asking no one to post Olympic spoilers, and I think that's a lot to ask. Some people are able to catch it live, especially if you have friends on your list outside the US. I do think it's completely reasonable to ask NBC to stop spoiling their own programming, and I don't understand why they seem to be working so hard to make everything so unfun to watch.

LOL! You sound like my FIL. He hates surprises and is so impatient. One year he opened a corner of every single Christmas gift because he couldn't stand having to wait for everyone to open them.
H is always telling him when the big soccer games are on, "Dad, don't tell me what happens because I want to watch it when I get home from work." At least 3 times, FIL has called or seen H and said, "OMG can you believe Barcelona won again!!??" H rages.
