I don't get it. It isn't a movie, or a book. IT IS NEWS. It happened. You will find out. I don't even understand how it is possible to go all day without finding out who won what. Won't someone tell you randomly "OMG, we won a medal today in XYZ?". Or does that only happen in Canada because we win so few medals (lol)?

I think people want to watch it happen, even if it happens earlier in the day. So they avoid the news until after the event is aired on NBC.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people want to wait until they have a chance to watch what they recorded to find out results.
H records lots of sports (mostly soccer) games to watch at a different time a lot and puts himself on a media blackout so he doesn't see the score anywhere.
For me a lot of the fun is the heart in my throat feeling I get when I'm watching them compete... the mens' swimming medley relay from a couple days ago, for instance. I like to jump up & cheer and all that, and knowing in advance kinda wrecks that part of it. I totally still get goosebumps when I watch the medley relay from bejing though, heh.

Yeah, but we don't really get the option of watching it happen, which is what's frustrating. They'll wait to show us their crummy edited version, but they'll throw up the results all over the home page before they ever air it.

I don't understand why it's hard to understand people like watching it. I just avoid the news all day so I can watch NBC's bastardization of it in prime time.

Isn't that like asking why anyone likes to watch anything televised without knowing the ending? It's entertaining. Moreso, when I don't know what's going to happen.
the only time people not wanting to know the ending bugs me is when it's a shakespeare play. this has happened to me like 5 times. i've attended a 400 year old play and someone is all "don't tell me if beatrice and benedick work things out!"
lol tamb, I guess I still watch the olympics even when I know. And I enjoy it. I'm excited to see (SPOILER, lol) the synchro diving tonight even knowing Canada got bronze.
There's no point in watching sports if you already know who won! People just want to enjoy the Olympics! IS THAT SO WRONG?? lol. I get your point, though.
Exactly. It takes the excitement out of it. It's like watching a rerun of a show...knowing when the bad guy is about to kill a character off.
My co-worker just went online and just freaking told me the results tonight's game. And he doesn't really watch the Olympics.
L: Hey Chela, did you know ____ won ____ tonight?!
Me: ARGHHHH!!! You do realize we are 5hrs apart and we have to wait till tonight to see that?
This isn't a new thing. Haven't you heard of someone recording a game and not wanting someone to spoil the score?
I've heard of people doing that, but not of being pissed off "OMG, I can't believe they put the results of the game as a headline, I haven't watched it yet!". It is called THE NEWS.

I get this, but the Olympics are such a big event I think people complaining about spoilers are crazy. You can't expect the media and everyone else to not talk about it. I have been avoiding Twitter, Facebook, and pretty much all news sites for days.

My issue is with NBC. If other new outlets like CNN or the Times are whoever want to blast it, more power to them. I have avoided them.
But NBC doesn't give me any option. They are holding the broadcast until prime time AND they're putting the results on their homepage and via text alert and e-mail and who knows what else. I can't even navigate to the live feed if I wanted to without seeing it in the center of the homepage.

Well, yeah; but it's also top-headline news here lately. Regular game scores aren't on splash pages, unless you're looking at a local news site; and they're usually not sent in text or email alerts, either. A lot of these results are being sent as "breaking news," which means people are getting text messages of the results before the competitions are even airing.
But that's my point! It is impossible not to know.
It would be like not watching the Stanley cup finals 7th game when Habs are playing (I can dream, ha!) and be pissed when their win is splashed all over the news within 3 seconds of the ending.

Ok, I get that. Why are they not showing coverage during the day?

Nah, it would be like NBC waiting 8 hours to show you the final game, but putting up the headline on their site and sending you a text message saying, Habs Win! 3 seconds after they win.

But if you are choosing not to watch and record it until later, that's your problem. We can't even SEE IT on the TV until LATER.
Jebus Christmas, papie.
OK I GET IT. YOU GUYS HAVE STUPID TV NETWORKS THAT WANT THE WHOLE WORLD TO BE ON AMERICAN TIME.
Why am I yelling? I think I'm entertained by how frustrated you guys are getting. Maybe I should create a troll after all.
