Im not sure if it's "Brazillan" but I did permanent straightening in Thailand and its the greatest thing EVER. It's like a reverse perm that lasts for months. No more flat ironing;my hair would dry straight. It was VERY cheap there. I can't stomach paying the steep price tag of this in America or I would totally do it.
I have done it once and wasn't very impressed with the results. My hair stayed straight for only a couple of months. I mean, for the price I paid, I was hoping it to last for 6 months, at least. I'm pretty sure what Carolyn is referring to is Japanese straightening...it's very popular in Asia. Now I've had that done a handful of times and was happy with the results. Brazilian is supposedly less damaging to the hair. Cost-wise, they're about the same.

Yes. It probably is Japanese straightening. It's some pretty harsh shit and definitely isn't good for your hair. That being said, it might not be any worse than flat ironing everyday. When your hair grows, so does the treatment and you have to get it redone or the part that grows in is wavy/curly.
I would really like to do it because I hate my hair so much right now plus it's so damaged from 12 years of flat ironing. I can stomach the $300 price tag (Does that price seem normal?) BUT I'm freaked out about the 3-4 days that come after the treatment is done. You can't get your hair wet or tie it back/up at all. I don't care about not being able to wash it-- that's fine. But how can I never tie it back? If I don't put my hair in a ponytail while I sleep, I will probably sweat which will probably get my hair wet, and then supposedly it gets (somewhat) ruined. Althought it's probably not that big a deal.
I didn't realize you can't tie it back. That's hard. Especially when you work around food. I am not feeling a hair net. But I couldn't spend $300 right now anyway. I'm saving up for my breast reduction It would give me a headache to sleep with a pony tail though. Every time I fall asleep with one I always end up waking up and taking it out.

$300 is normal. My guy charges me $250 only because I've been going to him for years. They tell you not to wash/tie your hair afterwards to let the chemicals settle in your hair. If you put your hair in a ponytail, the elastic will leave a groove/dent in your newly-straightened hair. But I guess you can get away with those jaw clips to pull them back from your face.

Yeah you can't tie it back for 3 days and you really don't want to. It would leave a crease. If that is what's holding you back do it in the winter. Those three days are totally worth it $300 isn't bad. I thought it was more like $500.

Do you just wear a shower cap during showers, or anything where you hair needs to be up?
