Do you have anything each month that is pretty costly but you really enjoy? I know we don't have the money right now, but I'm hoping soon to be able to start taking horseback lessons. I haven't rode in years but I think it's something that would make me happy. WDYT, is it worth the splurging?
Yoga and at my last base my pottery studio. I didn't find one here bc of how short of a time I'm here, but I'll find one in my next city when I move this month. Golf for H
ETA- totally worth the money. Once I let my pottery membership lapse, and H was like "you're so much happier when you have that outlet" and encouraged me to sign up again, even though we were in saving/debt pay off mode. I feel the same for H and golf.
We pay $260 a month to go to CrossFit and while it's expensive for our budget we won't cut it. We already talked about it and we'd cut internet, satellite & iPhones before CF.

I think it's worth it. I'd love to get back into horseback riding, but it'd not only be the cost of lessons, but also childcare in my case. I think when DH is deployed and we get free CDC hours I will take advantage and go riding then.

My wine budget would be considered a splurge, even though I rarely buy bottles over $10.
When H is around, our eating out budget is way higher than what I do on my own. He'll find an excuse to have good food for any occasion. It's Wednesday? Halfway through the week. Let's celebrate and go out to dinner.
I just bought P and I a few new outfits and consider that a huge splurge. I think I like this splurge quite a bit but most likely won't do it again for another year. If you enjoy what you splurge on then heck yeah it is worth it. My mother told me a few weeks ago that we can't always pinch a penny to the extreme and we need to have fun at least twice a month. I like her advice

After you've taken your DH's deployment orders in to CYS, you get 16 free hours a month AND instead of $4/hour it goes down to $2/hour. You can bet your sweet bippy I'm making good use of this benefit!

I qualify my wine purchases as alternative therapy. LO and I are both happier after I've had a glass of wine in the evening! ;D
As for my own? Having just moved, I'm still trying to figure things out. During DH's last deployment, it was doggie daycare, even though I was a SAHW/M. Because of my belatedly-realized high risk pregnancy (I never, ever felt good) and then difficult recovery, and newborn, Smudge simply did not get the exercise and socialization that he needed. I took him two afternoons a week to doggie day care--and it was worth every penny!
Yes I own 2 dogs and 2 horses. Pretty much a huge chunk of my time and hhi. Thats pretty much my splurge and am fine with cutting back on everything else.
I could do my hair myself, and actually Mr. Sookie used to dye it for me (no joke), but I'm definitely down to spend the $120 including tip it costs me every 6-8 weeks. The girl I found is AMAZING and so funny, and for how long and thick my hair is, it's a steal.
Thanks for the advice Stan. I definitely won't be taking lessons anytime soon (not until we get more comfortable). Im boot a fan of running, and hated it when i was AD. But i do love bike riding and have considered spending a bit on a bike!
We have a cleaning service come in twice on a month on Friday mornings. I hate cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, so I do a little bit every few days (wipe things off mostly), but leave the heavy scrubbing to a professional. We can afford it (it's about $80/month), and it helps keep a small business running and a cleaning lady employed, so I'm happy with the arrangement. But yeah, it's kind of a splurge, but worth it!
