Hi ladies! I'm about to go to my first military ball, and I'm wondering if it would be weird if I wore a formal dress that isn't floor length. The dress I have is silver-y, and the skirt goes to just below the knee. It's a conservative dress, but it's pretty. I'm 40, if that makes any difference. I don't want to be the only one in a dress that isn't floor-length.
I apologize if this is a question you get all of the time! Thank you for your help!

Is it a Marine Corps Ball? Is your date wearing dress blue alphas?
I mean, you won't look bad, and it's likely that other women will be wearing that length of dress, but technically if they're in their most formal uniform you should be in a dress at the same level of formality. I always wear a floor length dress unless my date is in bravos or service alphas. I went to a ball last weekend and there were maybe 5 women in cocktail dresses? There was also a woman who was barefoot though. *cries*
I always go floor length for the Marine Corps Ball, I did see a couple cocktail length dresses that looked nice though. Stan, seriously barefoot? WHO DOES THAT? *eta the.

In their defense, pregnant women.
I do think I could give a pass for that. I got to a point where my feet barely fit into my loosest flip flops, but I also declined going to the Navy ball last year for that reason and because I wasn't interested in trying to find an appropriate dress for my shape and the local climate. I don't judge others who do, though.

Oh my bad I didn't realize they were pregnant, mine didn't last long when I was pregnant at the ball either.
