Does anyone know if you need to tell your Garmin when you are in a different region of the world? I have used it in China and Africa with no problem, but I can never seem to get a signal in Dubai. It took almost 20 minutes for it to get reception this morning, so I have essentially stopped using it, but I miss Garmin.
I don't know if it matters that my Garmin is old? Maybe the software has changed since 2009? Or that it hasn't been plugged into a computer for a few years?
I typed out a nice long response that proboards ate. The short version: my 110 worked everywhere that we went on our big trip, including Antarctica, but took 20 min or more to lock a signal in Chicago. It hated the city. I updated software and it was a tiny bit better but still took 15 min or so. It was a great reason for Santa to bring me a shiny new 220, which works without issue
You can do this thing where you reset the satellite preferences (or at least you can on my 305) and then you let it sit outside for like 30 minutes. It definitely helped here in Houston. I don't remember the details though, but you should be able to google.
I have used my 210 on the east coast and in Ireland, and in a couple months I'll see if my 910 likes Hawaii. It didn't take much longer to find satellites in Ireland than it does when I move town to town or state to state around here. I have no fun tips to suggest.

The other thing I've found that helps is putting it on top of something metal (like a car, or in my case the shade over our parking spots) and/or elevated.
I've only tried on our cruises-no problem in the middle of the ocean. Faster than here in NC most days actually I do keep up with all software updates though.
Update - Clearing the cache helped a ton. I run in a park that is surrounded by 20 tall buildings on a path that is tree-lined on both side and I got a signal with 15 seconds after I did the clear the cash routine the night before.

I have a 305 (I think). I will try this tonight.
I had trouble with the 305 in Atlanta, but no trouble at all in Ireland...go figure. However, my laps were pretty full, not sure if clearing that out would have helped.
I got the 220 and now have no problems getting a signal!
