Does it matter if its an otherwise nice/acceptable name? I.e. -- I think some places as names are nice, like: London, Brooklyn, Sydney, Austin, Charlotte, Savannah, Madison ,but if a name you would otherwise think was nice/decent was chosen would it be weird if the parents were also like "that's where he/she was conceived"

There is an ongoing joke that H's middle name was chosen for that reason.. his middle name is Van. Haha. It's not true (or if it is, I don't want to know!). I think it's weird personally. I mean, go for it if you want but don't tell anyone that's where the name came from! Although someone might figure out if baby has the same name of the place you vacationed 9 months ago...
ETA: Ours would just be the city we live in, which wouldn't make a good name, lol. Maybe our apartment building name? Nothing about that makes a good name either!
I don't think I'd judge. I'd think it was funny but not in a bad way. I like names that are places sometimes, especially if they have significance. We're seriously considering naming our son Indiana, nn Indy, because it's a place with a ton of meaning for both of us since we were both little. And no, he wasn't conceived there
I know some people who have done this and I think its a little weird. If I learned that about my name I would feel like it's forever tainted with a terrible image lol.

This actually is sorta true of DD's middle name. It was the street our first house was on. But only coincidentally. As her middle name is after DH's grandma.
I think it's a little weird. I remember my parents telling me about how they chose my name and liking to hear that story - it would be a little awkward to explain that one to your child!
For a while H and I were nicknaming our baby Baby Irely, because last May we hiked up to a place called Irely Lake that was really beautiful and while we were up there we had a long talk that led to us deciding we were ready to try for a baby. We obviously didn't conceive a baby there - and I didn't get pregnant until July - but we've called the baby that a little and even toyed with using it as a middle name, although I don't think we will.

I didn't do this. I would have never named the child after where s/he was conceived. But in the article it talks about naming the kid after somewhere that is important to you. I can see me doing that. We named our dog Irving after Irving Plaza in NYC.

Yeah, no.
But I can give you a weirder one: my college roommate's brother was named after her mom's hot ski instructor. Apparently her dad was jealous that the ski instructor had flirted with her, so she kept joking when she got pg that "there's a little <name> in my belly!"
I probably wouldn't do it, but my kid wasn't conceived anywhere cool. I had a friend in school named Britain after where he was conceived, and I actually kind of like the name, but imagining his parents having sex is just awkward.
I have joked to my husband about it because I think the story is kind of amusing (and the name happens to be one of a very likeable TV character so has warm fuzzies), but no, not happening.
It's times like this I feel like my conception story is SO BORING! We had a longtime joke about being able to have a good story about "where baby came from." Turns out - our bed, at home, probably in the missionary position. We're not that boring! I swear!

Is "conception story" a thing now?!
The 'place of conception' is part of the 'conception story' is it not?
