Our two older kitties passed away two weeks ago. I'm happy to say we are bringing home a new cat tomorrow.
Anyway, I'm thinking of getting insurance for the new ones (we are still looking for another who is a good fit). Does anyone here use a pet insurance company? For cats or dogs? Do you like or dislike them for any particular reason? Do you insure a cat who is FIV+?
I added in the FIV+ question as we haven't gotten the test results for our new guy yet. I got a quote from Pet First because there was a link to them from Petfinder. It was $9 a month for just $1000 Standard accident or illness. The $5000 Lifetime plan was about $24 a month. I doubt I would do a rider for routine costs because it runs about the same as paying for that ourselves.

I'm sorry for your losses, but congratulations on your new family member!
We have Embrace for 3 of our 4 cats (I really need to call and add our kitten...). It is $40 a month for the 3 of them. Our policy has an annual max of $5k per cat with $500 annual deductible per cat and 20% copay (you can choose different levels of coverage, and they give a credit toward your deductible every year you go without a claim). We don't do routine costs either- I don't think those are a good value through insurance.
If your cat is diagnosed with FIV or FeLV before you get insurance or during the waiting period (usually 14 days or 1 month), I think some pet insurance companies (maybe even most/all) won't give coverage for illnesses, only accident coverage.
