Someone just posted on a FB mom board I'm on. Wanted to share here in case it would help an allergy mom:
ALLERGY ALERT!!! WENDY'S CHICKEN NUGGETS!! Today I stopped at Wendy's with my 4 kids on our way back from running errands. When we got home, the kids sat at the table to eat. I noticed my 6 year old start to scratch her neck and grab her throat. Then she said her throat was "hurting so bad" and she was having trouble breathing. I looked over at her, and her lips were covered in blisters and she had hives all over her face, neck, and chest. I quickly gave her the emergency dose of Benadryl, and waited with the epi-pen in my hand. The Benadryl worked almost immediately, thank God. After I made sure she was fine, I got on to Wendy's site and read everything that they had listed, including things that could have cross contaminated. I thought, okay, maybe someone made a salad with nuts and touched her chicken, but I called corporate to get the ingredient list in its entirety. The woman started reading off the list and repeatedly said, "natural flavors." I have done my fair share of research, as well as asked a million different questions when at appointments. The Natural Flavors kept ringing bells for me, so I demanded to know what their natural flavors used are. After a brief hold, she came back and said "Shellfish." BINGO! That was it. The part that really pisses me off is that it is not even listed on their site! NO WHERE LISTED!?! It does, however, say that it could cross contaminate with fish, but there is a separate column for shellfish..not checked, of course. The only listed allergen for the nuggets is Wheat. Are you freaking kidding me, Wendy's?!? Allergies are serious. This is completely unacceptable!? My blood is still boiling, obviously.
Do you know this person well? I'm not trying to be a jerk but I'm side-eying the use of Benadryl with those symptoms. Those are total use the EpiPen right fucking now symptoms....not wait and see with Benadryl symptoms.
The only thing I can think of is the nuggets are cross contaminated with their fish sandwich which might have shellfish or something, I don;t know. If that's not the case a big WTF to Wendy's for shellfish being in their undisclosed " flavorings"....it's against the labeling law which I think would be very odd for a company like Wendy's to disregard.

I actually don't know her at all. A friend added me to this group years ago and it's sizeable so I know pretty much no one in it and don't post myself.
I should also say I know little about allergy symptoms so you all would know better than me... But I didn't want to NOT post it and have someone here serve it to their kid and them have a reaction. Id rather just post it.

Yup. Kid scratching at throat and saying their throat hurts gets them the epi pen over Benadryl.

Well, I know from experience that when you have a reaction as severe as that the symptoms (hives, blisters, swelling, etc) doesn't just simply go away so quick, especially with just Benadryl. I gave E Benadryl that day and the paramedics gave him a shot of epinephrine and his swelling took a few days to go away entirely.
