I loved DOW, and I'm halfway through SON.
I'm disappointed. I feel like Matthew and Diana have no chemistry anymore. The wedding sex scene was a complete flop. And Ashmole is pretty much forgotten so far?
Just finished SON. Matthew annoyed the bejesus out of me for the first half. I think their relationship redeems itself (somewhat) later in the book. But it's different than DoW. Some of the historical name-dropping seemed extraneous - doesn't lend anything to the story. But the author is a professor or something (right?), so I guess it's of interest to her.

Yes, the author was/is a professor. I had her in college, and she was my favorite college prof. I took two courses with her--a basic European history class and a class more focused on Tudor England.
There is a lot of name dropping in SON. Also, I'm about 60% of the way done, and it's getting a little slow. I hope it picks up again soon. I think SON is WAY WAY better written then DoW, so even the slow parts are more readable (and I did really like DoW--couldnt stop thinking about it after).

I'm almost done now. I do really like the book so far, but I really wish there was more about her learning her magic in it. It gets more focused at the end but the first half really had nothing to do with magic.
