Ok, as I mentioned I am new to the H&F arena....and I have been working on the couch to 5k. What is the secret to finding pants that don't slide down when you run? I have a pair of crops that I wore yesterday and I feel like I spend the entire 30 minutes holding my pants up. I don't know if I need bigger or smaller. What's the secret?
I haven't had any issues with the tights I picked up from Target - they have a drawstring. I have a pair of Adidas crops that fit me like a second skin and never budge.
I do occasionally have issues with my old navy supposed compression tights slouching on me. the cut on those isn't quite right - they're tight over my thighs but then a little looser across my hips/waist so they don't really want to stay up.
So i'd say tighter, but you might just need to try a few different brands out and do a lot of jumping/running in place/twisting around like a crazy person in the dressing room to find something that sticks.

I find that I have to pull up leggings (long or cropped) every so often even if they fit, but regular workout shorts (drawstring waistband, non-spandex legs) stay put. Can you wear shorts? I don't know if it's too cold where you are right now.
I have had good luck with under armour, oiselle and nike compression shorts/tights/crops staying up, and I get them a size smaller than I think I need. I just returned a pair to athleta for this issue. They had a drawstring, but I had to pull it so tight that it was all wonky when running . For whatever reason they were tight enough in the hips and legs, but not tight enough in the waist.

Drawstrings are my best friend. If I don't have a drawstring I feel like I'm pulling my pants up every few minutes. I try and size as small as possible as well.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Check out www.runningwarehouse.com. Not sure where you're getting your active ware, but Old Navy/Target always seems to sell pants with no drawstring I avoid their pants for this reason.

I just picked up 2 pairs of pants at target - one crop, one full length, and both have a drawstring. They both also have a teeny zip pocket. Or at least the long ones do. I was pleasantly surprised.
