I just found out that a friend from high school was diagnosed with breast cancer today
We're 32. I really need to get it out of my head that this stuff won't happen to people I know until we're in our 40's (which is utterly ridiculous, considering my father died of stomach cancer at age 36).
It hit close to home (same age, both have 2 young daughters, etc), and is really inspiring me to remember to do monthly self breast exams and check moles.
I had one of these last year. One of my friends that I used to be in brownies with died from brain cancer leaving two small children. Another good friend is in remission. It makes me appreciate my health and realize that my time is a gift. (I)
