I just spoke with the surgeon. The operation went well. She's coming off of anesthesia and the surgeon said she is moving, groggy but wakeful, and had the breathing tube is out. I should see her soon.
I guess her head grew a bit more than expected so the bone flap did not entirely cover the brain. They put some mesh and something else that I can't recall to cover those areas. The doctor said everything looked good though. Her eye may swell for a few days because of the surgery but should go down quickly.
They are planning in keeping her in icu overnight just as a precaution, which I'm happy about. She bleed very little and they just really have to monitor for infection now. 6 weeks is the critical window for infection, but after 2 weeks she should be allowed to do more. I'll know more about that later. Thank as always for your prayers and thoughts.
How are you doing with all of this? I can only imagine the stress. We are all here for you!
Surprisingly I'm very calm right now. I was a mess last night and I have a feeling the recovery might be harder because I'm not sure how Emerson will deal with the incision. Last time she was sedated for a good two weeks and couldn't really touch the incision. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself though. I feel like the stress is going to hit me later.

She may not even care about the incision. Are the sutures disolvable? They may itch as they are healing but at the point of itching it may not be a big deal if she messes with them. Clean, dry and intact for 7 days is usually part of discharge instructions.

They are dissolvable. That's good to know about the itching. Thanks.
