kelle does live inside pinterest/etsy (TONS of etsy shops sponsor her and give her free stuff to promote)
I'm sure she makes bank on her blog now, it was already popular before Nella was born but exploded after that.
and many of the most popular mom bloggers out there don't live lifestyles of the rich and famous. Thinking of Amalah here, she is extremely down to earth and they don't even own a single family home. I have a feeling they put a lot of the blog's earnings towards college funds for their kids.
Some of them are more down to earth than others. I don't really understand why you would put crayons in that jug - it's not very easy to pick out the color you need. People like following rich attractive people though so I can see why their blogs are popular. I didn't add the woman who was in the plane crash to my list but she's a good example. Money + good photography skills + interesting backstory = good blogging. Every time I've tried blogging it's like "then I made BBQ chicken in the crockpot, watched Netflix and went to bed. The End."
looooooooooooooove Amalah. I think much of her appeal is that she is kind of the girl next door mom blogger that anyone could be friends with. Plus she is super funny and her kids are adorable.
I read her entire archive when I discovered her back in 2007

Lots of the ones I follow get book deals (MADE, Bloggess) or guest blog all over the Internet (Centsational Girl). And I sorta hate that, because their updates get sparse and they start saving their best content for the other properties.

That or every post becomes an ad for something. I'm thinking of Dooce. I had to stop reading around the time she was partnering (or thinking about partnering?) with HGTV. It was one constant commercial.

My BFF is a mom blogger. Her focus isn't crafty, but rather her experiences as a mom of four, observations of life, etc. She has ads, but I would guess they don't actually bring any much, if any, money. She's a SAHM anyway, so any income would be a bonus. It's mostly a creative outlet for her, though she aspires to be published.
Most of the popular bloggers mentioned above make quite a bit through their ad networks, as well as the sponsored posts you see. I'm a longtime blogger, although I post so infrequently and mainly about my kid that I don't have much of a readership, but I know some big bloggers and have met many of the gals mentioned above.
It is obvious that everyone here needs to read Crappy Parenting which is all illustrated with crappy drawings so no fancy etsy stuff On the bright side it is hilarious, crappypictures.com/
I think blogs in general have to balance being a blogger vs. having a ton of ads/sponsored blogs.
I've unsubscribed from a lot b/c I just can't handle every single post being sponsored. And it's great that you got X product for free or an entire renovation sponsored, but that doesn't relate to us real world folk.

Thanks for this. I just checked it out, it's like she knows my life!

Not a mom, but literally just snorted. That's my experience with blogging too so I always give up after two days. I usually start like once a year when something really cool happens so I have a great first entry. Then the second post goes something like (modeled after today) I sat on the couch with my sister and we watched gymnastics online and whatever NBC showed on the TV. Then we ate sandwiches and watched gymnastics on tv for the commentary. I watched an episode of Bones on Netflix and went to sleep.
If only exciting things happened more than once a year!
