Long story short, my sister has succumbed to alcoholism. She's really struggling right now trying to find the first step out of the pit. She's in rural NE with not a lot of resources around her. I suggested that she find some online resources to help her find her way, but didn't have any concrete suggestions to give. I'm hoping that some of you might help me. Thanks!
Have her go to aa.org and click on "need help with a drinking problem?" There are links that can direct her to online meetings. She can also get more information on how AA works, etc. on that website.

Local AA meetings, online meetings are available as well as others said. There are forums where she could read a little bit, the other people's stories, and possibly get advice. Soberrecovery.com is one I've checked out, as well as WomenForSobriety.
It's free for alumni of the inpatient treatment at one of their locations. I'm not sure about cost if one only wants to utilize the online portion.
Otherwise, yes - aa.org is likely the best online spot to start.
If she's near a hospital, she could contact the hospital for resources as well. That was actually my first call when I started looking for places for my H.
