I find it disconcerting that so many of us were dissatisfied with hormonal birth control, but this is always treated as the default option for young women. GYNs need to start educating women about non-hormonal options!

I have no issues with hormonal birth control, and it is not responsible for infertility as some have implied. 30 years ago that may have been true, but they have been changed a great amount since then.
Part of my reasoning is that we still don't know what was wrong and BCPs seem to mask it. On top of that I don't feel comfortable taking them at my age. I have a few years to 35, but not many. Back when I was 20/21, it was a fabulous choice and I wouldn't change that for anything. Most non-hormonal options aren't viable for many. 16 year olds don't need to be getting IUDs. For many high school and college students charting is not a reliable option and condoms alone aren't enough for them to feel comfortable.

I loved my BCPs and am pretty upset that I'm not supposed to take them again. I had no side effects and they made my periods (ok, not "real" periods, but bleeding) very light and, obviously, regular. After we think we're done having kids, I'm going to have a real heart to heart with my OBGYN about the risks and how much higher the risk of a DVT actually is on BCPs. If it does seem to be an unacceptable risk, then I'll go with the condom/temping I described above until we're absolutely sure we're done with kids. I know some women don't do well on it, but I think BCPs can be a great option for a lot of women.

I might, at least in between kids. H will be getting the snip when we're done having children. There's no way I would want to temp for the rest of my ovulating life so if H decides he doesn't want to get a vasectomy then I will probably go back on BC. It didn't mess up my cycles at all, so if we decide that we do want more kids after a few years then going off won't effect anything. And I really loved the no PMS and not cramping at all. My cramps are killer. Actually, I might go back on it just for that. I hate having to take so many painkillers the first 2 days of my period.
I am using it for bc right now, but only because we would be ok if I got pregnant. If I really didn't want to get KU at all, I'd go back on the pill fo sho.
I haven't been on BC since 2002. And DH an I have been having unprotected sex for five years now. So... no I don't think I will ever be back on BC. DH said after/if we have children he will get the snip. lol
