I am scheduled to work next week in the city we just moved from. I stayed on staff at my old hospital to do prn work until my job starts here in the winter. I am supposed to fly there Sunday night and work Monday-Thursday. DD is also on my ticket, as a family member down there is planning on watching her during the day while I work so she can still see and sleep with me at night.
Obviously the events of our ER visit last night complicate things. I certainly would cancel the trip if I wasn't planning on taking her. Also, it would take a week or so to get her in to a new pedi GI up here, but her old pedi GI down there works next door to my hospital and could potentially see her Tuesday. I feel bad traveling with her since she's better but not 100%, but I also don't want to bail on work at the last minute. They've setup this work agreement specially for me and are very short-staffed right now. I have no doubt she could get any addition medical care she needs down there very quickly, but feel bad leaving her with my aunt during the day if she isn't feeling better.
I know no one can make the decision for me, I just wish I had a better idea of how she'll be doing come Sunday, so that if I bail it's not at the very last minute.
I would talk to your aunt and see if she's comfortable handling her medical needs while you're at work. If you go to work, you really need to do your best to not leave as you say they are short staffed and worked with you on this schedule.
It's a tough situation, but it also sounds like the her medical care out there is more accessible. It also sounds like you are pretty confident in the care out there as well.
Otherwise I think you need to stay put and take that week off from work, giving them full notice.
I'm so sorry your daughter has not been well. That must be very difficult.

My aunt has seen her at her worst, she actually helped the nanny a few times when we lived down there and DD was first diagnosed. She thinks she's up for the challenge, so I guess we'll give it a go. I'll have a shorter day on Tuesday so I definitely think we'll go check in with her old GI doc. And our pedi down there (an awesome pedi whom I already miss) invited me to dinner to talk about how DD is doing.
But of course if she gets worse this weekend I will call it off and apologize profusely to work.
