We are screwed if this baby is a boy because we can't agree on a boy name. I like stuffy names that lend to cute nicknames. Like for awhile we were both keen on Archibald/Archie, but we've thrown it out. I love Bobby, but 6 of the 7 Roberts/Robs I work with are douchebags so I just can't even if he's a Bobby.
We also liked Evan and Jonah, which don't really lend to good nicknames (except maybe Jones or something, but that is a bit too...something). But now H has nixed these names too.
Last night he was all like, I've got a name and I love it - Thomas/Tommy. I really like the name, but I had killed it internally since my ex's dad's name is Tom and I thought it might be weird. I told H this and he's like, so what? So I was like, ok, maybe. After all the Sawyer Thomas talk in the other thread, I remembered that it was also my ex's middle name.
I have no hard feelings, but I don't know, now it's super weird to use that name, right? If I tell my H it's his middle name he might feel differently. FWIW, we were together for like 9 years and married for less than one. We started dating in high school. It's been 10 years since we divorced.
I'm also open to any suggestions you have for stuffy names.
It might be weird if your ex's middle name was something very uncommon like Randolph. But Thomas is a very common name, and I seriously doubt anyone will make the connection to your ex's middle name.
my ex was Francis/ Frank. dd2's middle name is Frances, I have never really given it much thought though, in fact dd was 2 or 3 before I even realized it
It's Thomas. If it was, I don't know, Desmond Aloysius, that would be weird.
BTW, Desmond NN Des ("Dez") is a charming old man name with a good NN. Also the name of one of my ex boyfriends, but we almost used it for O anyway. HA!

I don't think Thomas would be weird to other people. But would it be weird to YOU? Would you look at the kid and think of someone else? If not, then I think you're fine. IDK if I could get the association out of my mind though (eventually yes, my kid would own the name...but it could be really weird for you for awhile).
I had a friend who was worried about using the name John for the same reason. Someone told her that her John will become "her John," and she will forget about all of the other Johns she knows. She said she ended up agreeing with that sentiment and is happy she used that name.
Thanks, guys. Love all the suggestions and love that I'm not a weirdo if we decide to go with Tommy. The only person who would even connect it would be my ex, and I don't anticipate running into him ever.
A number of the names mentioned are family names and none mentioned are what we went with for DS.
One is my ex's first name, ha.
Desmond is pretty cool - we hadn't come up with that one on our own. He was my fav on Lost.

He was my favorite on Lost too...
Penelope/Penny is our front runner for girl names. Ha.
