Potential new cushy in-house job lowballed me on Monday, but over the week I was able to negotiate the salary up a bit, the vacation up significantly (from 13 days to 20!!), and they are giving me a signing bonus to make up for the bonus I'll leave on the table at my current job so that I can start right after labor day. And their benefits include a 6% 401K match and a 3% pension as well. And a special rate on a mortgage (this is a financial institution). How's that for MM?!
Thanks to ESF and others for the negotiation help on the bonus thing, and to MM for encouraging negotiation in general. This is the first time I've really negotiated a job offer, and it feels great to have stuck up for what I'm worth and gotten it. Apparently the HR guy had to involve my potential bosses' boss and she went to bat to get me. Which also feels pretty good
I can't believe I'm doing this. I feel sick about leaving my team, but SO excited for a change, and for all the new professional clothes I get to buy now that I have somewhere to wear them!
I told them I get 20 days of PTO now. They didn't have to know that in my current job that's supposed to cover both vacation and sick time (I'll get another 10 days sick time in this job)
Happy shopping spree! I will be interested in seeing how your transition from WAH to an office goes. One of these days, I will have to get out of my sweatpants and find myself one of these fancy jobs where you have to wear real clothes, and I need you to tell me it can be done.
I am so excited for our cushy new client-side lives!!
Me too. Cheers! :drink:
So you mean I won't have to be here at 9pm for an international conference call? I won't have to pull 12 hour shifts when we have a big project? I can hire people like me to do the heavy lifting for me?! yes, please.

Congratulations and excellent job on the negotiating. They should be thrilled to get you, and they should take advantage of your now well-honed and no doubt well-respected negotiating tactics.

That is pretty kick ass - esp if your current company doesn't try and screw you out of the bonus. sounds like they really want you, which is definitely a great start.
Now I have to decide when to give notice and when to leave...
DH's evil genius advice is to give notice monday, but say I'd be willing to stay until the end of the month if they will put in writing that the bonus I've already earned will actually be paid out. Otherwise I'd leave in two weeks and either start new job early, or just take a two week break. I don't have to start new job until the day after labor day, but I could.
