Holy crap.
I was in N's class for 1.5 hours today doing the party. Those kids didn't stop moving the entire time. Just constant motion. And noise. I am completely exhausted, and about to fall asleep right now, but still feel like I need a drink to take the edge off of the constant commotion. It was like being in the middle of a giant pack of 45 lb feral kittens. They weren't being bad, or doing anything crazy, just being....kids. And their teacher locks herself in a room with them all day, every day. On purpose.
Teachers - you rule. Enjoy your break. Goodness know you need one.
On the flip side, when I went to DS1's class party, I had the opposite experience. Even in the party scenario, ALL of the kids were quiet and calm the entire time. It made me a little sad, in a way...kids are supposed to be crazy kids on party day! He goes to Montessori school, which I feel is a good fit for him, but they don't do FUN well there. (He would be one of the kids running around dancing, singing, and causing a scene all day in a traditional school. He has no middle...he's crazy or calm.)

I'm a high school teacher and I have no idea how elementary teachers do it. I get them for an hour and them good bye, and hello new group for an hour and switch again.

Thanks!! I don't know how the elementary teachers do it. At middle school we don't do parties, but the kids were insane today. Today is one of the few times I've wanted a drink during this pregnancy...actually, I don't want A drink, I want to be drunk and then pass out.
Lol. Yes! I helped my daughter's class decorate gingerbread houses the other day. Of course more candy was consumed than stuck to the houses. I returned to the class a couple hours later to help out and the poor teacher!! She just looked at me and whispered "omg, they're all pretending they're cats" 22 of them were meowing. Lol. I brought her a bottle of wine today.

Massive ditto. I actually wound up assigning a mandatory extra credit essay today to my sophomores because I knew if I didn't keep them busy they would have gone absolutely insane. I would not do well in an elementary setting.

I did that the other day. Our Friday's are block schedule. I had my easy kids today so it made it much easier.
And JalapeñoMel mine exhaust me too. More so last year than this year but there are days for sure. Which is why I know if I'm exhausted after an hour there is no way I could spend all day with them.

The last 2 days before vacation are always extra exhausting no matter what. Parents randomly drop in left and right asking to take their kids if they were in for some other craft or party. It's hard to plan because so much extra stuff comes up that we can't control. And this is puking season too. Every year I wonder why trimming our tree at home is such a huge chore for me. I think it is because H always plans it for a fri. night after one of these insane days!
We didn't have a party today. But we did some art, had an extra recess, cleaned out desks, watched 10 minutes of Annie, I opened gifts, and they were still crazy!
I teach first but the thought of teaching middle school gives me hives. You get used to the noise and commotion after awhile. I love first and the excitement before winter break is astounding!

OMG you guys don't get out until the 23rd?! That is bananas! I thought the 19th was super late!
As far as I know this is standard here. We just recently started getting an early dismissal on the 23rd. There are people who think we should be in school on the 24th too, but I don't think that'll ever fly.

See, the 19th seems too early to me. Probably due to me wishing my kid was in school the 22nd and 23rd so I have one less little person to keep track of while scrambling to get all my last minute shit done!
I was room mom last year and felt like I needed a stiff drink after each class party. I'd have to be on speed to keep up with all those kids.
Someone in our administration thought it would be areally good idea for our middle schoolers to go to a movie yesterday and then have a dance the last hour of the day today. I've gotten almost no work out of them all week. Granted, here are many I never get any work out of, but this week was worse than normal.

DS1 is in 1st. We included his kindergarten teacher in the chocolates + handwritten card teacher gift group, which we had to hand out today (party day and last day until 1/7) because they had a snow day yesterday.
ANYWAY, the woman had a handwritten, personalized and lovely thank you note ready to send home with DS by the end of the day. The woman is an (amazing) robot.

I must be crazy because I love helping in DD1s kindergarten class. The kids are starting to grow on me. Today I was in charge of making reindeers cupcakes and candy kabobs with them. They had a blast.
