I just booked us a flight with our miles to fly in and out of Rome in May.
We definitely are going to Sicily for a week (flying there), and going to the Amalfi coast for three nights, but I was looking for a new place to go, outside of Rome for the first 2 nights before flying to Sicily.
It would have to be accessible by public transportation, since we are not renting a car. I would prefer for it to be no more than an hour away. We are open to any suggestions!
Another vote for Orvieto. We did it as a day trip as well but I think it would be neat to spend a couple nights there. Then you could also go to Civita di Bagnoregio, which is literally the coolest looking place on Earth.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

Perfect, I will look into Orvieto! Thanks! We've already been to Rome, Florence, and Venice so we were hoping to check out a new place this time around!

We spent a week in Sicily over the summer and loved it so, so much! Let me know if you want any tips. We spent half in Siracusa and half at an agriturismo near Mt. Etna.
