So I hate this time of year wen it comes to tipping. I never know who I am "supposed" to tip. The mailman? UPS? Daycare (even though we're only been there two weeks so should I tip out last one?)?
I gave a gift to my mail carrier but only because he is awesome and talks to my DD, and bring heavier boxes inside and also waits for me to unlock my storm door instead of just throwing my mail on my step (mailbox is on front door)

I gave a "bonus" to our nanny, which I guess is sort of a tip. But I don't tip anybody else other than for normal things like when we go out to eat. I also don't have a regular hair stylist or house cleaner or anything like that.
I did send our holiday card to the boys' pediatrician, physical therapist (who they don't work with as much now), and the MFM that delivered the boys, all with notes on the back saying how much we appreciate them. But I didn't tip them.

I gave my nail tech a gift card. I have been going to her for years and she also just had a baby, so it was a joint Merry Christmas/congrats on your baby gift.
I probably should have gotten something for my hair stylist but the last time I saw him was the end of Nov. when I wasn't even in the Christmas frame of mind and I won't see him again until Jan.
Not sure where you're living (I'm from April2012) but you're user info says nyc. Here you tip your super/doormen/porters.
I live in NYC, and I think people tip for everything.
I've never tipped my landlord/super before.
Yeah, you need to tip your super in NYC. I have never heard about tipping your landlord. I wouldn't do that. If you ever need your super, you better tip him lol.
Someone told me that it's customary to tip the landlord. I was all...?
No. You should tip your building staff (super/handymen/doormen/porters), but not the landlord. Your rent is the landlord's tip.
To answer your question, we tip our building staff and housekeeper. I don't tip my haircutter because I don't have a regular one, but if you do have a regular haircutter you should tip them.
Secretary and office cleaning staff get gift cards.

What should I be tipping them?
At least $100. It all depends on how many units in your building. If you use him a decent amount, probably more than $100. Maybe try googling. I live in a building with a super, handyman, porters, and doormen with 200+ units so its different. We usually have to spend about $600 for everyone.

I am tipping my super $150. I sort of made up that amount though. We live in queens in a building with 60ish apts.
We also have a doorwoman who works business hours, we are giving her $150 and I think we gave $50 to the porter but I would have to ask my husband.

There are four occupied apartments in our building, no doorman, no handyman, no porter.
I have only called them once in the last 6 months, although they did have a contractor replace the bathtub a couple months back.

$600 tips for the freaking building people??!!? Just call me Scrooge. That's asinine.

It's not something I enjoy doing, it's just the standard in my neighborhood.

On top of the fact that rent is already outlandishly expensive for a shoebox apartment.
