Anyone here know military/navy stuff?

I am nosy about someone's rank (i.e., is it a fancy pants high rank or something...?).

His rank was Command Master Chief of Naval Station Annapolis.

Command Master Chief is the senior master chief (senior enlisted) in the Navy. He would be the enlisted adjunct to the base commander and keeps the routes/services/provisions flowing on the base and stuff like that.

Enlisted ranks in the Navy are Recruit, Apprentice, Airman/Seaman, Petty Officer (3rd, 2nd, 1st), Chief, Senior Chief, Master Chief. There is a Master Chief of the squadrons and the Command Master Chief for the base, then for the fleet (multiple squadrons or a region) then Force (surface, air, corps, etc.) and then there is a single one for the Navy. He's rather like the Admiral for the enlisteds.

And not just anyone who makes E-9 can do it. After that rank is reached, it still takes more interviewing and training to get the job. Each command only has one, so it is a pretty big deal.

There's Enlisted and Officer.

Enlisted go E1-E9. The higher the number, the higher the rank.

Officers go O1-O10.

The differences lie mostly in responsibilities. Officers and higher ranked enlisted (E4/5 and above. At least for the Marines) tend to hold more.

Training is a bit different. And you must have a degree to be an officer, but can be enlisted with or without one.

So an Officer isn't technically enlisted? Or is that a dual meaning word for Navy?

I did not. And I am jealous. Camp Lejeune had a DD and it made me grateful we were only in Jacksonville for a short time.

No it doesn't always happen on a weekend and the dates change all the time. The military can really suck sometimes. When he deployed he was supposed to leave at like 4am. Didn't leave till almost 7 then came back the next day, because the plane broke down -_- He stayed for another week and then finally left. I appreciate your offer though I know I couldn't be a homecoming photographer because of how crazy the times get.

Yeah. But we have a truck and an old car. Our gas mileage is garbage. lol So doing that drive often is no good.

Hurry up and wait!

H's first homecoming time changed 4 times before the actual date and then 5 times the day of. He was supposed to be back at 11 am. I didn't see him until 11 pm. His second was solid, but it was 4 am on a Thursday morning. lol Love it!
