I'm conflicted. I think Mayor de Blasio is right that his son, unfortunately, needs to be more careful in his interactions with police as a biracial person than a white person otherwise would be. I'm unclear on how his comments to his son became public. But I can see how the police under his command would take that as a slap in the face, since I do believe that most cops are good people, though of course there are unscrupulous and racist cops in every command.
I have several NYPD cops and their adult children on my FB, so I'm getting both sides of this pretty consistently.
I'm team Blasio no doubt. I think NYPD already didn't like him and are using this as an excuse.
It's not us vs. then. It should be EVERYONE against all bad guys, and some of those bad guys wear a uniform.
YES. I'm tired of people getting a pass because they have a uniform. We see it with the military too. Someone doesn't become good purely by virtue of wearing a military/police uniform.
I'm mostly pissed that some NYPD used their comrades funeral as a political statement. Tacky as hell. The mayor was obviously invited to speak. Respect your friend and the family and do that shit another time.
I think it's ridiculously narrow-minded to make DeBlasio's comment a rallying cry that "proves" he's anti-police. How many op-eds by smart, well-respected people saying exactly the same thing have been written since Ferguson? This is an opportunity for all stakeholders, politicians, police, and citizens, to talk about the realities of race and law enforcement in our country, but instead the talking heads are more eager to pick a fight than to solve problems.

It's funny because you could take a random sampling of Americans and the same attribute exists in many of them. Which is why I laugh when Americans have such low approval ratings of their elected officials. Well you picked them! My goodness.
