It's so dry. We haven't had decent rain in so long. Tree leaves are turning orange and brown and according to biologists, the trees are just shutting down and going dormant. There's a chance we will lose something like 20 percent of our trees? I think I heard that on the news.
Anyway - long established perennials are also dying, and everything is just crunchy.

This is a jerk post... We have had a wetter summer then I can Ever remember. Like it rained all of June. We are green and cool still, the downside is my garden is fucked and if things start growing I'll be harvesting in the pouring rain of fall.
I wish you could have so of our cool and wet.
Calgary too. It's unusually green here and everyone is bitching about having to cut their grass so often.
Ugh it's supposed to be 37 here tomorrow (like 99 f) and that's too hot for me. My h wants to go hang out at his parents place tomorrow and they don't have a/c. I'm going to diiiie.
Ditto for Anchorage. A cool July--a few sunny days here and there. Now it's raining, which is typical August weather. I'm hoping we'll use up our allotment of August rain early so we'll have a kick-ass September.
I sure am looking forward to my DC trip in 3 weeks. I know it's hotter than hades there, but dammit--I'm sick of grey.
And Vegas in late September is really, really looking good.

Everything is dying here too. I think I may be losing my roses. We went to the zoo today. OMG, it was awful. I mean, we had fun, but the heat was so brutal, we had to take regular breaks and ended up seeing like 10 animals and skipping the rest in favor of the adjacent water park. Which was still awful, because it was so hard to get a spot in the shade, we ended up squeezed next to another family and the kids were exhausted and cranky.
I'm not liking this summer. Canada should not be that hot, FFS.
i'm texting with a friend who is at lollapolooza and they are getting evacuated from grant park because of the storms. record breaking drought, and it finally rains on the night of lollapolooza.
We're in SW MI and those storms are just rolling over us now! We have tons of friends at Lolla! It seriously hadn't rained in these parts ALL summer.
It rained twice here today and I feel spoiled now. Our hot temps started in April this year and it's been such a dry, ridiculously hot summer. I love rain more than I ever have.
