And now we have over $2,000 in fees to the MVA because the car has been uninsured since last January. OMG. It's like it's never fucking over.
AND- he goes to court next week for his third DUI. So you would think he'll do some jail time, right? How the fuck am I supposed to get this resolved while he's in jail, and therefore making no money?
Ughh that sucks about the car. I hope you can get it resolved without spending $2k and it is probably too much to hope that it won't require a trip to MVA. Also, in MD I wouldn't count on his third DUI being jail time especially if he has a lawyer.
Can you take someone else off a title on their behalf?
In my state the person has to get put on/taken off by themselves, another person cannot do it for them (presumable to avoid any fraud and/or financial fuckery happening without someone's knowledge).
I had to bring my divorce decree stating that I got the car and they were able to remove his name with that.
Completely different scenario - but it's the same with medical benefits when there's a divorce. Hands are tied unless you provide the decree.
I'm leaving in a half an hour to go to the courthouse to get a copy of my divorce agreement. I can't remember exactly what it says, and I can't find it at home. (Don't even get me started on that- it seriously must have just disappeared, I'm an excellent record keeper.)

Ugh. I found out my ExH hadn't refinanced the car to remove my name when DH and I tried to buy a house. This was years after our divorce, which specifically stated that he was responsible for doing this. Unless the car is owned outright, the only way (I believe) to get your name off of it is to refinance the car into just the one person's name.

It's paid off, thank God. And I'm pretty damn sure I signed off on the title, but he never took it to the MVA to get a new registration.
