Someone from MMM recommended I post over here as well. She said you all are fun So, hello Boston board! I live in central Mass north of Worcester and work in downtown Boston. My commute is pretty sucky, but taking the train is a hell of a lot better than braving the Pike during rush hour. I made that mistake once and almost peed myself after being in traffic for 2.5 hours.
Anyway, I have a 7 month old little girl and an almost 7 year old Vizsla named Doug. DH and I are transplants from PA. We miss good sandwhiches, bread, soft pretzels, and Wawa. Good pizza is also hard to find in our area. But we love steak tips, having a DD on every corner, New England in general, and the seafood. We have been here over 3 years, but if you have any recommendations for places to eat or see, I love those.
Welcome! You probably already know if you hang out on MMM, but countthestars lives in your neck of the woods so maybe she has some recommendations. That's a tough commute! I also work downtown, and I live over in Somerville.
I just found out last week that she is really close to me. The long term goal if I stay in Boston for work is to move at least closer to the train station. That won't happen for a few years though.

Hi! I am also in your (sorta) neck of the woods, but I am originally from where Countthestars is from. I cannot imagine living where you live and commuting to downtown Boston every day. Props to you! The train is definitely your better option.
We have 2 dogs and a 2 year old daughter. One of my New Year's resolutions was to give up Dunks (since we spent like a zillion dollars in 2014 on coffee/tea), so, although I love having them everywhere, I won't be going any longer...
Welcome! This is a fun board, though I participate in very random spurts.
Hi! I'm only on this board sporadically, but I live and work downtown and sometimes I dream of moving out to the "country" (like Harvard or Boylston) and commuting in on the train. I don't think it would ultimately work for us but I can imagine that the pros might make the con of a long commute a bit more bearable.
Welcome! Another PA transplant here. I'm not originally from there, but DH is. We live south of Boston and have a 4year old. I miss WaWa too. And Rita's, but they have some in NH

At first I was thinking Harvard Square and Boylston T stop and was all at the country comment, LOL.
I have a colleague who commutes downtown from Harvard (the city). She says it's like going to your summer home every day. She has a ton of land and a huge garden. She takes the commuter rail in and doesn't seem to mind. I'm a huge baby about commuting though and that would never work for me.
Lol! The rural beauty of Cambridge and Chinatown!
Sigh, Harvard is so gorgeous. Good to know some people manage to do the commute and keep their sanity
Hi and welcome! I don't actually live in MA, but I consider myself and honorary member for the purposes of this board. That and I like to go to the GTGs. And I'd say we're a pretty fun bunch, so post away!

Harvard is beautiful! We love in Clinton, which is kind of like Harvard's dirty neighbor It is an old mill town with a bad reputation, but we actually like it here. Plus, there is like a bar on every corner, so if you need a beer all you have to do is walk down the street.
I've been doing the commute for a few months now. It is not awful. The worst part is the drive home from the train station which is like 30 minutes. I lose a little faith in humanity every day that I take the train and try to get out of the parking lot. People are just so damn rude. The plus side is I read more books than anyone with a 7 month old would normally get to read.

Ooh, Rita's. I love water ice. I heard that there was one in Leominster, but it closed down. Primo Hoagies is another that we miss a ton, but that is really a Philly specific place.
Welcome to the board! We are a small but very friendly group, most of whom have met each other. I recently moved to London but am Boston born and bred and hosted our most recent GTG over the holidays at my house If you can make it to one of the GTGs, I highly recommend going. This board has done them pretty much on a monthly basis for the last two years and I've made some great friends.
That commute is brutal, I don't know how you do it. I was one of the people doing a Pike commute--on the bus no less--for about four years. It did take me over an hour each way just coming from Waltham though. Ridiculous.
The board activity can be a little slow but feel free to post away!
ETA: Who was it that sent you here?
That move must have been so exciting. My sister just left last night to study abroad in London. She is so darn excited and I would love to get over there to visit her. I don't think that it wioll happen though.
I think that it was countthestars that recommended posting over here, but honestly, I cannot remember. Either way, you all are really welcoming

Originally from Leominster (don't live there anymore, thank god), but I don't remember there ever being a Rita's. Mr. Google tells me it was on commercial road, which leads me to believe it was in the Searstown Mall (I will never call it "mall at whitney field." Things close down in that mall overnight, so it's very possible that it was there, and I never realized it.
Clinton is in my husband's territory for work. He's there a lot. You're not far from me.
Ugh, Clinton, LOL. I have no idea what the town itself is like but I've played in volleyball tournaments there and I associate it with a crappy gym that I have to get up really early to get to for 8:30 or 9:00am tournaments. And DH interviewed out there once, day-long interview, no lunch offered, and by the time he said there was almost nowhere to eat and the places he did see were all closed :/
We are from Philly so imagine our shock when we went to order a pizza after 7:00 pm on a Sunday and EVERYTHING in town was closed. Now we know to never need takeout after 5pm on a work night.
Husband tells me they just opened a relatively nice steak house in Clinton...Have you been?
Not yet. We went one night with the baby, but there was a 45 minute wait and we did not want to chance it. I know a few people who have eaten there and said it was pretty good. We ate there before when it was an Italian place, but the food was not good and the service was awful.

I am actually surprised that things in Clinton were closed? I used to work at a group home in Lancaster and we would get take out late night. Maybe things have changed.

Hi!! I'm almost never over here but I relocated from CA in the summer. I live in Lexington ( so like way far out lol). I haven't really jumped into this board because I don't feel like I have a lot to say . I'm a SAHM to a 5yo girl and 2.5 yo boy.
Welcome! I'm born and raised in MA. Grew up in Western MA (so I know Rt 2 well) and now live north of the city. No kids, no pets but I do have an H and for now he's enough

How are you liking Lexington? So much construction still going on over there.
It's a really beautiful town... Very much in stark contrast to where I am from! It doesn't feel like home yet, but I'm working on it. As for the construction- yep, that's kind of random to me.
Hi! I'm a very random and infrequent poster but I live north of the city and am originally from NYC. My best friend lives in Worcester so we go out there a lot and out to dinner a lot. There are some awesome spots in downtown Worcester if you ever want recs.
I have an almost 3 yr old son and am pregnant and due with a little girl in March.
Hi to the new folks! I live north of the city as well and also take the commuter rail into work in downtown Boston. I'm currently on maternity leave with my 9 week old twins who have been keeping me a bit busy these days. I am hoping to be able to get back to some GTGs one of these days!
Wow, we have new people! Welcome! I forget to check here lately as the board has been pretty slow. So excited to see everyone back!
I'm North/West of the city. Not sure, on the 128 belt. My H commutes downtown and it takes him forever. He drives, no commuter rail for us unfortunately! Although he'd never be on time for a train anyway. We actually just bought a Camry hybrid mainly for his commute.
I'm pregnant with my first and due in May. I'm freaking out a little! I need to chat with some of the folks with young kids, I will need all the advice I can get!
Hi and welcome! I grew up in Bucks County and also miss the hoagies and pretzels! I finally found a place near Kendall that puts red wine vinegar on their Italian instead of balsamic like the rest of Boston! I love your dog!
