I'm wanting a crossbody bag for lugging around to tailgate parties and football games mostly, but I also want it to look pretty nice. I tend to dress up more than other Aggie girls, wearing sundresses or nice jeans with tops and ballet flats or boots. Crossbody so I'm not hitting people with it all the time like I do my usual totes or handbags, and so it is less vulnerable. I'm predicting more crowded conditions at SEC football games than Big 12 football games.
here's what I'm looking for: 1) less than $50 preferred, I can go up to $75 if I can justify it to DH. we're spending lots of money elsewhere this fall. 2) preferably brown, I think. warm tones for sure. no gray, black, etc. 3) tough. it will be sitting on the ground, in bleachers, etc. another reason for it to be relatively inexpensive, since I won't want a $300+ bag at a tailgate just to get scratched, dirty, etc. 4) able to hold quite a bit of stuff. my usual tailgate bag has my wallet, phone, a camera, a makeup bag that ends up being my "mini pharmacy" (holds ibuprofen, bandaids, tampons, pressed powder compact and concealer, a nail file), a flask, sunglass case, and once game time starts, DH's wallet and keys. my usual purse size is a small tote or large handbag. for reference, a LV Speedy 25 is a good size, although not my idea of a proper tailgate bag.
I'm glad you asked about this, I was going to make a nearly identical post. DH and I got season tickets for the Buffalo Bills this season, and I need a crossing that will hold up and can fit everything I need.

Check out Tanos and then find a gently used one on ebay. They do crossbody bags that convert to hobos. The bag's aesthetic is to be distressed which makes them wear well since abuse just makes it look like a really cool vintage distressed bag. They sell the biggest selection on Musthavebag.com and are in the the $100-$200, but I got my first one used on ebay for $50. If you find one that's not distressed, it can be kept shiny and new with Lexol Oil. They aren't made in China and aren't counterfeited to my knowledge.
Calvin Klein also gets these types of bags at Off 5th, The Rack, and places like that. I like the convertible hobos bacause you basically detach a strap and don't have it cutting between your boobs.

I'm all about my bags! I got their Zippy Diva Bucket new on sale for $125 shipped in distressed gold with brown straps. It zips shut, has pockets, and looks nothing like anything else. I know you want to spend less, but these are really well constructed for the price. I have 4 of them and 3 RMs now. I didn't think I'd love this label so much, but I do. They sell through so few places to keep quality and customer service excellent. Must Have Bag is a small business in NY owned by 2 WAHM's who love these bags. They are very responsive and happy to answer questions about color, leather, and size.

Shut.the.front.door. Didn't think there were other Bills fans on the board (or at least that were willing to admit it, lol)! I'm a WNY transplant, living in CT - I wish I lived closer so that I could get season tix, but DH would divorce me if I made him move to Buffalo! I hope to be able to get up there for at least one game this year.
To answer the OP's question, have you checked Target or Macy's? I picked up a decent (cheap) crossbody for our trip to Belgium a few years ago at Target, and my MIL got me a decent Tignanello one from Macy's (though it was white) - I swear I always see them on clearance. I'm currently in the market for a nice grey one, so I'm afraid I can't help with that particular color you're looking for.

Yay, another Bills fan!! We live 2 hours from Orchard Park, but don't mind the drive to see our team! DH's da has been a season ticket holder for 30+years, and this is our first year. Previously we would go to 2-3 games a year. I am so excited!!
I haven't started searching for a bag in earnest, so I will check out both Macy's and Target. I need something that doesn't cost a ton, can take a beating and can stand up to rain or snow. As you know, WNY weather can be extremely unpredictable!

Let me know if you make it to a game!
Cool! I'm from East Aurora, my mom teaches in Orchard Park (she's taught a few players' kids over the years), and my sis & BIL live a mile down the road from the stadium in Blasdell, so we just tailgate there. I've brought my blue RM MAC to a few games, though the chain makes the purse pretty heavy - I'm in the market for a new bag that I don't care about quite so much, ha! The Target one was perfect since it was that fake pleather stuff, but it wasn't exactly fashionable (though it holds up well in cold, wet weather), and it was a bright mustardy yellow. I'll definitely let you know if I make it up to a game!
Pooh, I did a quick search for large/medium crossbody bags under $50, and turned up this one (I think they participate with ebates if you use that site too!) - not sure if this would suit you:
does your stadium allow bags to be brought in? i went to some big 10 games last year and was told that all bags have to be checked. this may just be a local thing and not a national thing. i am not sure. it is really annoying, though, because i can never fit all of my stuff in my pockets

SEC games are like a runway show compared to Big Ten games. I have a feeling that not letting the ladies have their bags would cause a big issue in that conference. FTR, I graduated from a Big 10 and am not bashing. It's just a whole different culture. Even, the Music City Bowl in Nashville had women in serious heels last year while we were there. Full make, hair, nails, leather and pea coats in team colors. It looked nothing like anything I've seen in the Big 10.
photon, absolutely. of course they have to be checked, but they are allowed in. my flask stays hidden (my school's stadium is dry but not every school has a dry stadium), I haven't had it confiscated or poured out yet. I've never heard of a football stadium not allowing bags in period, they'd have a bunch of pissed off parents (think babies and toddlers, and diaper bags) if that were the case.
FCG, as I said, I'm more dressed up than my fellow Aggies. I do full makeup, hair, dresses, and have worn heels in the past (not usual though). I would love to eventually have a maroon or cordovan leather jacket to wear.

Oh I'm sure. Big Ten is pretty much t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jeans with flat shoes or tennis shoes. I worked in College Football and saw it all. It's really different in the Conferences. Even my Domer friends are super casual. The Conferences dress so differently for games from region to region. I got my school colored leather jacket at Nordstrom's end of season on the cheap. It multitasks for hockey since DH is obsessed.
Not sure if you found one, but I bought a crossbody from The Sak a couple years ago and I really like it. They have quite a few colors at different prices.
