I've decided I need a new handbag. This morning was for the birds. I was rushing around the house like an idiot, trying to get ready for a day that runs from dropping Doggie D to the vet for his surgery, a full day at the office in the middle, followed by a flight at the end of the day for a mtg tomorrow. I had to swap handbags to my tiny one, which my normal wallet doesn't fit into. Picking through my wallet, deciding what I need, missing some of the important stuff (ahem, my office security badge), and getting the 3rd degree from security this AM are all things my life could do without. I want one bag that I will not have to swap out of for logistics like this.
The bag I'm drooling over is a ~$250 Coach leather convertible bag. I've been drooling over it for a while, and this season's has a zip instead of flap top which I like even better:
(I know, it's not sexy. But since I can't seem to handle bag swapping, I need basic.)
I just can't pull the trigger though. My current bag is a 5ish year old cognac leather tote that I like, it's just too big and doesn't close securely enough to travel with, with a carryon + computer bag.
Sigh. Splurge? Don't splurge? It's not really a "can I afford it," it's more of a "I've never dropped more than $120 or so on a bag before" hurdle. Help me decide?
I wouldn't pay more than $150 for a Coach bag. They have two day sales nearly every week through their online coach factory outlet. Even the more expensive bags always go on sale.
I'v heard from a few people here that the Coach factory and outlet bags are different quality from what you would get in the store, but I've bought plenty of the leather bags, and they have held up for years.

My sister used to work for coach, and it is true that most of the factory and outlet bags are made exclusively for those stores. They do sometimes get bags from the full price stores and I am sure you can ask a sales associate at a factory store or outlet to tell you if they have any of those bags in stock.
Do It. I have bought bags from both the full price Coach store and the factory store and they are both great. The full price store is better quality and worth a little extra IMO.
