I just got home so I'm still trying to process everything we talked about.
I like her and she seemed to really understand what I was saying. As I was talking about my habits she guessed that I've been diagnosed with OCD in the past. When I told her that I had, she explained that she thinks I actually have OCPD rather than OCD. I already have a prescription from my PCP for a super low dose anti-depressant to help my headaches, so we're going to work with increasing that dose to see if that might help my anxiety/depression/etc rather than add another medication to my list, which I really appreciate.
She also recommended a psychologist for me to see because she thinks that I might really benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy. She works at the same office, so I'm just waiting to hear back to find out if she is accepting new patients. If she isn't, the doctor I saw today gave me a couple of other names to try.
Overall, I feel pretty good about it. Overwhelmed, but good.
I had actually never heard of OCPD and just looked up the distinction. It looks like there's a big difference in how they're managed/treated so that's great that your psychiatrist thinks this may help. It's even better that you might be able to just stay on your current meds. FX your psychiatrist and maybe the psychologist really help!
I'm so happy to hear your appointment went well. It sounds like you found a wonderful psychiatrist. I hope the psychologist she recommends is accepting new patients and you can see them soon
MrsAggie - I had never heard of OCPD, either! I was just talking to H about my appointment and I read a description of it to him, and he was in complete agreement that the basic information about it seems very fitting to my personality and struggles. It makes me hopeful that there might actually be a chance of making some improvements.
