Hello all!! I have a 9 yr old Rotty/Husky mix. LAtely he is very itchy and is scratching so much he makes himself bleed . He does not have fleas and the vet cant take us for 2 weeks. Does anyone have any tips on OTC products or natural remedies for this?

This happened with our dog last year and it turned out to be seasonal allergies. The vet gave her a shot and sent us home with some pills to give as needed. It was weird b/c she's 5 and had never had itching/allergy problems before. But the shot/pills worked instantly, so apparently that's what it was.
Just a thought. IDK if there is a good OTC remedy for that though. Two weeks is a long time! I might consider calling other vets to see if anywhere could take me sooner
Our pup was itchy and we were just in the vet and she didn't have fleas either, she thought it was seasonal allergies and told us to give her benadryll. Our pup weighs 28lbs and she recommended a flu adult dose (25mg) every 8-12 hours for 3 days. Her itching has subsided along with the rash she had on her underbelly.
I would maybe call and see if they can recommend a dose for your dogs size and see if benadryll works for you.

Our dog has environmental and food allergies. I would make sure you're feeding a high quality grain free food and consider switching to a novel protein like bison or venison if you already feed grain free. For environmental allergies we bathe him in an I scented free and clear puppy shampoo without oatmeal, wipe him down with a wet washcloth when he comes inside and give him Zyrtec once a day. Benadryl is pretty ineffective IMe. There is an allergy FAQ on the old board thg is really helpful, not sure if it Migrated to the FAQ here?
Kiddie Benadryl could be a quick fix. Also, my parents dog has terrible allergies and they changed her diet and give her fish oil everyday. That's cleared it up.
Daily cool baths with anti itch shampoo (which I got at the feed store), no rolling or laying in the grass at all, switching to fish based food and fish oil all really helped a lot. The vert gave us a leave in lotion/ conditioner that helped on the spot with cooling the redness on Lauren's belly. Lauren hasn't had an itchy summer since then (she was 1- her first real summer). For Heidi, I needed to make the final switch to grain free, chicken free food and she is much better.
