The Wheel of Time series is an epic fantasy series that has over a dozen books, each of which is well over 1000 pages. It's a whole lot of reading (probably the reason for the maniacal laughter...)
I haven't read the selection series. Right now I'm working my way thru a series about the world after a "change" suddenly makes gunpowder and electricity, and basically everything post-industrial stop working. Starts with a book called "Dies the Fire", and it's called the "Emberverse", by S.M. Stirling. I'm enjoying it. I may go back to the 1632 series by Eric Flint one of these days, though. That one was fun, too (take a year 2000-ish town from West Virginia, and plop the whole thing, buildings, power plant, people and all into the 30 years war in Germany, and see what happens).
