Have you found any dog dental chews that actually mitigate bad breath?
I think our dog's breath is extra stinky.
We just had a vet well check last week, and they said everything looks great, so I don't believe it's a dental issue.
Have you found switching found to make a difference? We have him on Hills Science Diet because that's what the shelter had him on, and it seems to be working well for him (healthy poops, rarely farts) so I hate to mess with it if I don't need to.
I just started giving my dogs Dentastix a week or so ago. The green ones are supposed to be good for breath, though we got them also because our GSD is allergic to meat protein so no meat flavored treats for him. I do think they have helped their breath. Not nearly as stinky as its been lately.

I know that switching food sucks, but SD is really not the best. A lot of things will get better if you can transition him to something better. Check out dogfoodanalysis.com for help. The money you're spending on SD could be spent on something with fewer fillers and a lot more healthy stuff!

The shelter just said to get something that had a protein listed as the first ingredient, but it looks like SD's ingredient listing is misleading (just like human food, ha).

SD donates a ton of food to shelters, and they bank on people not switching their dogs off of it. People think that since it's expensive, it must be awesome, and it's just not. For the same amount of money, you could get something like Wellness or Innova, which are much higher quality.
I know this board is slow, but please don't hesitate to ask about things like food; we are happy to help!
BTW your dog is adorable, and is so lucky to have found you (and vice versa)!
I'm glad I saw this thread. My dog isn't yet 4 and has pretty bad teeth for her age, not sure why. The vet recommend a cleaning in the next year, but I'd like to try some of these dental chews first to see if they help.

Do you brush your dogs teeth daily? That may help. And, Instead of dental chews, you can try more natural options. I give our dogs celery and carrots to help clean their teeth. I feel like their breath is much fresher than a chew makes them. Maybe try that?
