I was so glad I was coming from the north. I heard about the Milton activity on my way to the highway and thought, "wow that sucks." I almost took the back roads, but figured the backup was far south enough that it shouldn't be too bad. And then as soon as I got on the highway, WBZ announced they had blocked 93 south, too. Everything was clear by the time I got to the Mystic Ave. exit, but it still took me over an hour and a half to get to work. One of my coworkers was driving in from Braintree, though, and she was stuck between exits when they started. It took her almost three hours to get to Cambridge.
I'm conflicted. I'm supportive of peaceful protest and of this cause, and obviously protests are most effective when they disruptive to day to day activity, but I don't know if this particular approach was the way to go. If their aim was attention vs. support, then well done, but otherwise...
I'm sure I'd be more annoyed if my commute was affected. And I do hate that it hindered emergency response vehicles.
I totally agree. I will tell you that my bleeding liberal heart beliefs took a bit of a beating this morning, but I do understand the point. The problem is that most of the time, peaceful, non-disruptive protests get a bit of press and then everyone moves on. By disrupting the day to day, they certainly get all the attention, but now people are just focused on how they're assholes.
I am conflicted about this. I support this cause/view and peaceful protesting but I'm afraid now everyone will just see "a bunch of people stopped the flow of traffic" and all the backlash. It will shed a negative light on their message. Although, peaceful protesting where everyone stands around in a park makes little impact. Ugh, I don't know. I will say I'm glad I didn't have pt yesterday!
I just can't figure how the lives of people trying to get to Mass Gen or Beth Israel by ambulance, or the hourly wage workers trying to get to work weren't as important as the protest. I support the idea, but I'm unsure if this was perhaps the best way to go about bringing attention to this issue. I don't know what the correct solution would be though...

I drove in yesterday and was on the Pike when 93 north got shut down. Then 93 south. Right then I had an "oh shit" moment because if they were going for all of the major routes into the city, 90 was next. I didn't hear about anyone here getting stuck in the jams, but my office is huge, so I assume there were more than a few people stuck.
