Because the music business is erratic, and I only make a bit of spare money every 6 months or so. And its pretty much law that every time that happens, a tooth breaks or falls out. Which is what happened today, after getting a nice bit of cash two days ago. So any money I made is wiped out by going to the dentist. Damn it.
Still, I learned my lesson last time. Its much cheaper to fly to the UK, have a holiday and buy some clothes and get the work done than it is to do it here. But damn, I am so fed up with fucking dental work. And it still wipes out any profit.
YES I can bitch about dental work too. Not for myself, because I'm perfect (until my teeth fall out of my crap gums), but BigT has a terribly narrow pallet that is causing teeth to break and it's getting $$$$$.
This latest one isn't covered by insurance (which would only cover 60% anyway) because it was started by another dentist that we dropped because dealing with their incompetent billing dept was a part time job unto itself.

I pray every day that BabyLiu gets the Mr's teeth and not mine. While mine grew in straight without assistance, I have the mouth of a hockey player. Though a lot of that might have something to do with never going to the dentist from age 7- 22 (when I finally got dental insurance).
You're right - there is some law about the timing of dental issues. DH's front teeth chipped years ago and all the various fixes have fallen off immediately before an important presentation, or meeting, or event. Something where looking like a snaggletooth isn't acceptable. And we never have the spare money or time to get it fixed immediately. Poor guy even had veneers put on and they popped off two or three times right before Italy!

I hate the dentist. I have deep crevices that lend to lots of "precavities" that some dentists want to fill and other one doesn't. Plus they all seem to things a little bit different (the "last one" always doing it "wrong") and have to keep paying for the same teeth to be refilled. On the plus side, my teeth are straight.
My DH, though, apparently has "protective saliva" that leads to dingy looking teeth but zero cavities. Plus they are crooked. We'll see what DS ends up with...

i have the "better" teeth in our family but i use that term EXTREMELY loosely. his teeth were terribly crooked. to quote The Simpsons, and no offense Reeve, but he was from The Big Book of British Smiles.
my teeth are relatively straight but cavity-ridden.
my mom's teeth were so bad that she had all of them pulled in her 20's. i'm fine with some cavities if that was my alternative.
Growing up I needed braces but my parents couldn't afford it, so they worked overtime and made arrangements with the dentist so i Could get them. I will forever be grateful for that, forever!!

This is exactly DH and me. My teeth are straight and white and I've never had braces. DH has a janky grill. Guess which one of us maxed out our dental benefit this year filling SEVEN cavities.
I knew there was a reason I didn't open this post earlier. I've got to call the dentist about a tooth that was just filled. I'm scared about getting another crown.

We don't have dental and have been paying off DH's root canals and crowns and all kinds of other crap for over a year and a half. And more problems keep arising. I pray our kids get my teeth. Or have really good dental insurance.

This is me. I have had a lot of cavities because I have deep crevices that my toothbrush can't reach, and I'm constantly being told I have almost-cavities that I should go ahead and fill. I've stopped doing it and am taking my chances for the time being because I'm sick of paying for questionable dental work, only to need maintenance a couple years later for something that may have done just fine without treatment.
I have gotten far more aggressive about using Listerine and then a fluoride rinse every single time I brush. It remains to be seen whether this helps.
