Vancouver, BC - Hotel rec?

We'll be in Vancouver for just one night in September, between a cruise and taking the train home.

I'm looking for a decent hotel, somewhere between the cruise port and the Amtrak station. I'd like to keep it under $175.

We have no plans for the day in Vancouver, but a hotel within walking/easy public transportation of sight-seeing would be a excellent. Recommendations for ideas on what we should do for the day would be a bonus.

Any recommendations?
