My 13 year old cat started projectile vomiting about 3 months ago. The sound of the vomit hitting the floor would wake me up in the middle of the night. Over Thanksgiving, while I had him boarded at the Vet, they did a full exam/blood work, found nothing wrong, and surmised food intolence or IBD. They ordered Hill's prescription food, that due to several screw ups, just came in last week. I started him on the dry, while continuing to feed him Pride wet along with some baby food. His biweekly vomiting turned into biDAILY vomiting. I stopped the prescription food yesterday, and so far, no vomiting.
Do I just accept a diagnosis of IBD and start him on steroids, or do you know of any food I can give him that is better tolerated? He acts fine, his stools are normal. He's lost weight, but was overweight to begin with, so actually looks good with those excess pounds off. He does not do well at the Vet's - has to be knocked out to be examined - so going for steroid shots is not something either of us look forward to, unless absolutely necessary.
I have an older cat who vomits at least 1-2x/week, and for no reason. The vomit is usually large unchewed pieces of cat food, so we figured she just eats too fast and couldn't handle it. Once in awhile she has a hairball, but when I try to give her the hairball medicine (in a treat form) she just throws it up right away. Go figure! BTW- is that a red cast on your kitty's foot? Too cute, hope he's OK now!

As a follow up of sorts, took the advice of some vet tech friends and switched him to grain-free, gluten free food, and stay away from beef and chicken. Went almost two weeks with no vomiting, and then he started vomiting multiple times a day. He did get into some left over stuffing I had, and am wondering if its the grain in that causing the vomitting.
And yes, that is a cast on his leg. He got out of my apt one night, and most likely tried to jump on the 3rd story balcony and fell. Broken pelvis, broken ankle, two canine teeth broke off at the gum line, and his internal organs shifted. That was three years ago, and he's perfectly fine now (well, except for the vomitting, which I'm assuming is unrelated).
