Any suggestions? Applying high SPF sunscreen constantly wasn't enough, and I now have terrible discoloration and nasty skin texture. The joys of getting older!
Any recommendations to tide me over until I can get to the derm to get prescription hydroquinone?
Since we've lived in the pool the last couple of summers, I like the Aveeno products and Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Ageless Restructuring Treatment Cream. Mouthful. But I need to see a dermatologist too.
Not to scare you or anything, but I got the worst sunburn in my life in Ecuador. That equator is no joke.
I met my H in March, seven wintery months after I got it, and my bathing suit lines were so still noticeable on my shoulders that he asked if I had been in the sun recently.
I have been using Murad's moisturizer and it really has done a very good job on my skin this winter. I spent 14 years in TX and have had innumerable severe sun burns.
I use Obagi products. Pricey, but so worth it. I had some serious dark spots and general sun damage when I started, and saw improvement within a few months. Been using Obagi stuff for maybe 5 years now and I get lots of compliments on my skin. I think I used the nuderm line initially. The derm needs to prescribe the retin-a that goes w it, but you can get the rest of the products without a script. So worth it.

I understand where you are coming from! My sister is starting to have a hard time with her skin texture and her doctor prescribes a cream that peels off her skin a few days after she starts applying it. My sister says she looks like she has leprosy when her skins starts to peel. I think it's supposed to help treat early skin cancers. You might want to talk to your dermatologist.

Yes! I got a sunburn in Panama and my face swelled up and my sister met me a few days later and asked if I'd had some work done on my nose. What kind of question is that! I looked terrible!

If you have spots get them burned off by your derm. I too have an rx for hydroquinone 4% and they are a little lighter but not as invisible as the ones I got burned off.

I am back in NY so no scare there! I got burned on my arms in Quito (did not expect to need full-body sunscreen in 65-degree weather) but otherwise no burn -- just hyperpigmentation (LOTS of it) and nasty texture on my face. Despite tons of sunscreen/hats/huge sunglasses/etc. Grrrrrr to old skin!
Will do a peel tonight and hope that and heavy heavy moisturizer help with the texture but wish the ugly darkness wasn't there!!!
I did not use retin-a there because of the sun, but I'll also go back on that tonight. Grrrrrrr.

Good luck!!!
Same experience with my burn - I never even left the Andes. My burn was caused on a cold, cloudy day soaking in natural hot springs. Never thought I'd need SPF 40 when it is "winter" and cloudy.
When the day finally comes that they have to slice moles off me, I will know that's what did it.
