We are planning on staying at a B&B in Yarmouth for our Anniversary in October.
We would like to take a ferry boat to Nantucket for the day and have dinner there.
I'm assuming that not everything is within walking distance from the dock so do they allow you to bring your car or is there some other type of transportation when you get there?
I tried to look online but unless I'm looking in the wrong place I can't find anything.

We went to Nantucket for a day a few years ago, but didn't bring a car...
People do bring their cars over, but I think it's more of an ordeal to bring your car to Nantucket than it is to Martha's Vineyard. I'm pretty sure you need to have a reservation well in advance and it's pretty pricey. (We took the high speed ferry, not sure of the price difference between the two, but it was worth the money to give us a little more time there.)
There is a public bus route that we used, which seemed to be pretty easy and inexpensive to use. Since we were only there for a day we hit Sconset beach, the Whaling museum, the historic houses etc....
If you are only going for the day, I would make sure to take the high speed ferry. You can walk to town from the Ferry and there is a Jitney that goes to the beach.
Take the Hy Line high speed ferry as it is only an hour ride from Hyannis. As soon as you get off the ferry, you will walk right into downtown which has shops and restaurants. This is also where the cabs hang out and are easy to use. They do have public transportation that is easy to navigate. We have walked around town, down towards a beach and then to dinner a number of times. If you want to check out Cisco Brewery or Sconset beach, then you will need transportation. For dinner ideas, Galley Beach is my favorite. It is the only restaurant on the beach. They have outside seating, amazing views of the sunsets and exceptional fine dining. I would recommend a cab only to make sure you are back in time for the ferry returning to the mainland. Be aware of when you are coming in October. Some restaurants start to close up the first and second week of October. We have been going for the past 7 years during September and really love it. Enjoy!!
