Yarn and knitting is a comfort item for me. This may sound utterly silly, but it's really reassuring to have an influx of yarn for a project I've been wanting to cast on for a while now. I only packed so much emergency yarn in my suitcase, and I've already gone thru well over a third of it already.

You had me going with your title. I thought your DH got things moving. Lol. Hey audette do you use Ravelry? If you do can you PM me your screen name? I have about 2 real friends on there.

Also the monster pants look adorable. I hope they turn out well. Do you find that superwash yarn usually holds up well over time? I'm skeptical for some reason, that the coating might wear off and the item would have to be hand washed.
Yeah, no departure date yet. But, at least more yarn for stress management!
I'll admit, I don't usually keep anything around made from worsted weight superwash. It's almost always been given out as gifts...
But, sock yarn is superwash, and it holds up pretty well. DH wears handknit socks every day...
I'd like to do hand-knit boot socks. Currently DH has to wear Darn Tough Vermont boot socks. Nothing else touches them for wear and tear (27% nylon!) but the largest whole sock I have knit before was baby size. So....we will see it that idea ever comes to fruition.

I've got the first few pair I knit for DH on my Ravelry projects page. He's up to around 20 pair now (I've lost count). Some very plain colours, regulation-meeting colours, even. (regs say "green" for army. Not _what_ green... the last pair knit were bright lime green) I'd be happy to share the pattern, if you'd like. It's sized specifically for DH's calf size and height, but it might be modifiable for your husband... They wear pretty well. The oldest are 5+ years old now, and they don't get much special care (we wash them in the washing machine and hang them to dry now, but at first DH was sending them in with his laundry on base while deployed).
Apparently the big deal with handknit socks is that there is no toe seam. DH made the mistake of wearing commercial socks for a ruck march a while ago. I think he'd forgotten to do laundry... His toes blistered so badly they were bleeding before the end of the march. His feet just aren't used to a toe seam anymore...
It's so perfect for Mr. Audette to wear hand knitted boot socks.
He likes them. I started making them for one of his deployments. I'd include them in care packages when I finished a pair...
That is such a great idea. The care packages. I have like all these care packages I'm trying to plan and so far all my ideas are grumpy cat gear and stick on googly eyes. I'm so stumped because it's not like he's going somewhere that he'll have to take baby wipe showers or eat MREs. But the ideas I have found for college care packages just don't seem to fit either.
Cascade super wash 220 is the best. I am so glad that you got some yarn to keep you company.
It's one of my favourites! I (heart) Cascade. Most of DH's socks are made with their Heritage Sock, too.
I love heritage sock yarn! I need to get on this sock knitting band wagon. I made H a manly scarf for Christmas, but it was Cascade Color Duo and felt like a cloud. So no complaints from him. Ha.
I made a baby sweater out of 220 superwash for a friends kid. Out of the sweaters I've made, it was the softest and most durable. She can wear it all the time.

My love for Cascade runs deep. Lol.
I'll make you the same office I did Amaristella - if you'd like the sock pattern I use, I will happily send it along. It's sized specifically for DH, but it could be modified for other folks.
