We tend to have plenty of pantry staples already (rice, pasta, oatmeal etc), so I'd just get some meats and fruits and veggies, toilet paper, batteries, bread, cereal, some snacks.

I don't think I've ever stocked up in preparation for snow (or anything else) in my life! I'd probably get bread, milk, those kind of staples. Then some easy frozen meals to throw in the oven. Probably some TP also.

We generally have enough staples in the house to get by for a few days (including things you could make if there was no power) so I'd probably buy some fun snacks
Junk food, for sure. For this storm, we got some "essentials", like bread, cold cuts, eggs, milk, etc. but then lots of junk, like frozen pizza and mozzarella sticks, chips, popcorn, cookies candy, soda, and I have lots of wine on hand already.
We don't stock up for snow here. It's never been that bad plus we don't eat regular bread and milk at our house! When I'm stuck at a hotel in the snow, I stock up on yogurt, Chex Mix, Naked juice smoothies and Amy's frozen meals.

jjwritergirl that's why I've never stocked up either. The roads may still be crappy in my city a day or two later (they are terrible at clearing roads here..) but they've never really been bad enough that I couldn't get to the store if needed, even with TONS of snow. I don't think we've ever had the power go out because of snow either, so all this talk about power shutting off is weird to me, haha. I would be more likely to worry about that in the summer with tornadoes/bad storms.
estrellita - Snow is not common here, so a lot of our snow related power outages are due to car accidents (since no one knows how to drive correctly in the snow). We also have so many trees that pretty much any amount of snow is going to cause trees to fall on power lines.

Ah, that makes sense. Not that we have THAT great of drivers in the winter (or ever..), but at least most people kinda get it, haha. And we have a lot of trees, but they probably considered snow when placing power lines. I'm sure snow has caused power outages before, but it's not too common. It's definitely more common for winds or tornadoes to knock power lines over. I remember one really bad storm when I was in 5th grade where the power lines fell into the parking lot of my school. We had an extra day off (this happened over a weekend) so they could clean that up, plus a few broken windows and stuff. Storms of any kind are no fun!
See, for me, stocking up on food is not really because I think I will be trapped and will need survival food, it's more like I know I will have a day or 2 where I will be bored and I want good snacks as part of my entertainment

I agree. I've never thought I would actually starve during a storm.
Growing up in Wisconsin I don't know what it means to not go out in a snow blizzard lol But if I had to pick I'd pick staples for baking so I could make all the cookies and muffins and bread! (I always keep extra pasta, TP etc just because it's cheaper to buy that in bulk)
Stay inside. When we have snow (at all) or an ice storm, I avoid driving. I don't know how to drive on snow, nor do we even know where to get snow chains, much less own them.
So I'll try to stock up on tp, milk, and snacks, but only so I don't have to drive places. And firewood for extra warmth.
