My cousin is doing another round in Afghanistan. He's in his 40's, has two small kids, and really decided to do this so he could retire a little bit earlier from the army. He's been in so long, I think he can retire within 5 years of returning. Don't quote that.
Anyway, last time around we kept in touch snail mail. This time, he made a facebook group so he could check in and give us updates as much as possible. It sounds so depressing over there. His posts are always short but are similar to "Nothing new to report on. Hotter than hell. Waiting to get the fuck out."
On Easter, he was on Skype and the whole family was talking with him. Everything was going smoothly until he heard some shots fired outside their computer lab. We didn't hear it, but he rushed out immediately to check it out. It turned out it was nothing.
Just being on this side of it, I can't imagine how those soldiers cope over there. It's heartbreaking. I wish they could all come home and resume the lives they left.
I am sorry your family is going thru this. I am extra sad that he is depressed. I personally have no experience with this. But I wish him and you and your family well and hope when he gets back that if he need's help he is able to get whatever he needs.

Welcome to the new digs, Staza! I have missed you quite a bit over the past few weeks, glad you are back!
Sorry about the cousin's deployment, I know it's so hard on everyone (family, soldiers, etc). I wish the war would finally end, 10 years is way too long and our soldiers deserve to be home!
I wish him a safe recovery (an by recovery I mean return) Staza. When my brother was over in Iraq, I couldn't watch the news at all. When he told us his New Years eve gift from the Iraqis was mortar, I thought my mom was going to lose her shit.
Just be there to support him and he will be okay:) I'm keeping him in my thoughts for a safe return back to his family.
I'm doing well, thanks! I've been super busy, and my 9 month check up is the first week in June so I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on that as well

How YOU doin'?
Make a girl blush! I'm well! SOS different day! D got a job (woot!) and so far likes it!
Yay for check up, I hope all is still well.
How's walking and what not? Last I heard you were still doing PT
I hope he comes home soon. A couple of my friends had to do 2-3 tours in Iraq, and it's just Hell. Find comfort in your family and support each other. And, of course, we're here, too. *hugs*

I'm so sorry! It is so hard to deal with, both for the person who is overseas and their family.
My very close friend was in Afghanistan for two years. I tried not to think about it much while he was there, but when he got home for real and I realized he wasn't going back it was like two years worth of worrying and tears all exploded at once into some super ugly snot-nosed crying that just would.not.stop. He still teases me about it.
:::hugs::: And if there's anything you need, you can just post it here!
I'm at a standstill with PT. For the enxt 3 weeks my work schedule changed so I couldn't make any appointments, but I will be resuming them in June. I'm also limping around the house without the cane, so I'm trying. I'm not doing my daily exercises and that's what hurting me. It's a change I need to make starting yesterday.
I've got errands to run before I leave town today, so I can't stay and chat, but I hope to be back next week a little bit Have a great week and weekend ladies!
